"San Francisco: They're Whacked Out There!"
Supervisor Dufty's comment is interesting because, since the election of 2010, we've actually been thinking of California as America's yellow school bus for "special" children - with San Francisco as, both, the driver and the kid who happily straps him/herself into the front seat each morning. (L.A.'s the fat kid in the back who calls him/herself "Hollywood" and picks on the others.) Where that bus is going now, we don't know - they can't be helped - but, like a severely-overworked parent, we're currently of the mind to savor what enjoyment we can get - just this once - from merely waving goodbye as we watch them leave the curb.
