The so-called "conservatives" in power right now do not advocate conservatism; they are not even conservative.
And they certainly aren't republicans either except in name only.
They appear to be some sort of bizarre petri dish result of all the bad consequences of Nixon's Dixiecrat strategy melded together with the all the bad consequences that could result from worshiping Ayn Rand. (and when you think of all the potentially bad outcomes that could transpire from the wedding of those two, refined down to all the bad shit, and then add the delusional fervor of the true blue believer ala something that would make Joe Smith proud and envious -- well, it's not very pretty).
