I've said it before, and I have to say it again - you're all madder than a box of frogs:
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker has voiced her support for the work of controversial British conspiracy theorist David Icke on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs.
When asked which book she would take were she to be an isolated castaway, the author of The Color Purple chose Icke’s ‘Human Race Get Off Your Knees: The Lion Sleeps No More.’
In the 750-page tome, Icke describes how the human mind is controlled from the moon.
The moon, he claims, is actually a “gigantic spacecraft” which sends us a “fake reality broadcast”.
This method of manipulation is said to work “in much the same way as portrayed in the Matrix movie trilogy”.
Icke, a former BBC presenter, drew mockery in 1991 when he pronounced himself the son of the messiah in an interview with Terry Wogan.
Since then, he has made a career as an author and public speaker.
One of his key ideas is that Earth is ruled by shape-shifting reptiles, including the Queen and President Barack Obama.
And there you have it - The Matrix - and a box of frogs,...
Oh my...
ReplyDeleteOf course, coming from Alice Walker, this somehow doesn't surprise me -- I got into a whole mess of trouble at a faculty meeting once when I asked (thought out loud) why it was that in an effort to "enculturate" our students to "Black literature" we always insisted on making them read the nutty, not so good ones (I mean honestly, if you're trying to instill in students a sense of the contributions of Black Americans to the humanities/arts, wouldn't it serve to give them somebody other than, or at least beyond Maya Angellou and Alice Walker -- who were the only two featured "Black" authors I ever saw suggested in the curriculum at the meetings, and that was about 15 years of teaching, so 15 years, same two folks...something's not adding up here, at least to me).
It didn't go over well...just another nail in the coffin of my teaching career really.
Don't ask questions, don't criticize, just shut the hell up and teach The Color Purple and Caged Bird Sings during February...

Maya Angelou was my babysitter and I still don't buy her bullshit and can't stand the sound of her voice.
ReplyDeleteBut there's no avoiding it.
It's a bad joke sometimes, this life,..
Oh wow...so what was she like as a babysitter?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking if she was any good at it she probably should have stuck to that (I can't stand her writing -- never heard her voice, but I think I can hear a facsimile in her writing and jeez).
And yes, I got accused of "racism" for saying that, or suggesting that there might just possibly be other things we could have the students read/discuss (if anything because going over the same thing year in year out can put a person to sleep).
