So I'm reading this New York Times article, about Barack Obama and his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and what strikes me is the behavior of the two men: both claim to have embraced the Bible, and the teachings of Jesus - and they're, both, determined to bring others into the fold. Yet the entire column is about them slighting each other, "seething", and being "extremely sensitive". Which makes me wonder: what's the point of all this "spiritual" study if all believers do is talk shit and act like silly assholes?
It just reinforces my view that "church", and/or "spirituality", is a waste of time,....but then, everything Oprah has a hand in does that.
Duely noted, and for those of us who still have connections to church, it is important not to 'seethe' in reaction to them, or get all self-righteous about how much more well behaved we think we may be. That would be hypocrisy. But as men who claim to have leadership qualifications and perogatives - I reserve the right to dismiss them outright.
