I'm late to hearing this on Legal Insurrection (The Cow had a link to it). Better late than never:
Andrew F. Branca was on NPR and did an outstanding job explaining common sense to liberals.
I'm talking about hitting the ball so solid, you know it's going out of the park, Good.
The man's truly a star.
I mean that - stay for his closer - and then tell me he isn't brilliant,...
Actually Stacey McCain had a good article up about this case; something that pointed to what one of the big picture problems is imhao.
ReplyDeleteI'd link it, but the connection is down for me. I'll try later, because it is worth a read (in fairness, the guy can report when he actually decides to do it...which is part of my problem with his blog; I feel so let down by it sometimes).
Honestly, I've known some Zimmerman types in my life -- not bad dudes, actually fairly pure of heart to use a phrase, but they always wound up in a mess, because they really don't think (and that's what bugs me about his situation). I've also had the fun of working with a bunch of Martins -- let me tell you, sometimes it was wall to wall insanity -- but...evil, rotten person that I am (and I DO NOT feel sorry for them, let's get that out there!)...I hated to see their lives already close to being wasted at such an early age and being the last bus stop before something worse.
It was...nice...when they chose to stay at the bus stop and catch a different route.

Ah, here we go!:

ReplyDeleteI am a regular at TOM. And I know Andrew Branca is a rising blog star.
EBL, thanks for providing the clickable link.
ReplyDeleteA blog star eh? Then I'll steer clear: seems like these "blog stars" wind up going nuttier than twerking Miley Cyrus on a shopping spree...and the crash and burn is nearly as ugly.

An interesting twist that may blow open the really real of this case:
ReplyDeletehttp://alicewalkersgarden.com/2013/07/thoughts-on-our-sorrow-trayvon-martin-and-troy-davis/
Women's groups, shamans, conspiracy, lizard people, and Che all in one article -- it doesn't get any better!

*and of course, Alice Walker, who ranked up on my list with Maya Angellou when the college started handing out "authors whose works you must include in your syllabi" (which was shortly before I quit teaching -- my liver and lungs couldn't take the beating anymore)
PW, there is hype and there is merit. Branca did a great job over at Legal Insurrection on merit. Poor choice of words on my part. His posts were well written, funny, and informative. You would like them.
ReplyDeleteAlice Walker link
ReplyDeleteFunny how she compares Zimmerman verdict to romanticized story over the death of Che Guevara.
She would consider Che Guevara a hero...
And she doesn't realize that a lot of Cubans really didn't like Che all that much (in fact, I'm not so sure Fidel was all that thrilled with the psycho...hence sending him on adventures).
ReplyDeleteNah, it isn't his merit...it's just that once they become rising stars, once some other bloggers start calling them "rockstars" or whatever it seems they go nuts.
I get the sweats anymore when I hear the term -- not again, not another one...

It is a good point PW.
ReplyDeleteAs for Che, Fidel did not trust him. He was a psychopath and so they encouraged him to spread revolution in Bolivia.
Fidel (who, while a dirty rat bastard, was not an actual psycho) knew that if he kept Che around one of two things would happen: 1) Che would finally go too far in his little killing/terror spree and the Cubans would revolt against the revolution -- and Fidel would be finished (this was closer to happening than many knew; I fully believe that even Beria would not have had much on Che if Che could have been given more encouragement and opportunity in what he did best -- murder -- and the verdict is still out, if you consider the problems in S. America and Africa to be rooted in some of Che's actions; he was inept as heck as a fighter, but man could he stir a pot); 2) Che might decide Fidel wasn't "pure" enough and foment revolution -- which of course would just be a cover for Che's real drives: that murder and mayhem thing.
ReplyDeleteSo off to Bolivia and Africa you go Comrade Che...viva la revolucion e hasta la vista until we meet again! (which will hopefully be never).

I got fed up with Che a long time ago,...
