Not too long ago, I did a post that suggested two things: 1) It's silly, and childish, for Americans to think of our foreign policy in the context of a popularity contest and
2) Any world-wide poll that showed America was truly, legitimately, unpopular had to be bogus.
How I arrived at that second conclusion will have to wait for another day, but I thought the photo (above) ought to speak volumes about the validity of my position:
It's a picture from the last NATO Summit, and the lonely soul in the foreground is Spain's Socialist Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero - one of the most anti-American leaders in Europe, and one of the few European leaders to have never been invited to the White House.
Behind him, relaxed, laughing, and surrounded by the world, is the supposedly-hated President George W. Bush.
So don't believe the anti-American hype, because hype is all it is,...and, like all beliefs, you've got to buy into it for it to get to you. The extreme anti-Americanism some want you to see is a Left-wing lie that some want to make true. It's another belief for sale, like those commercials for weight-loss products that come on television late at night, when they're hoping you're not thinking straight. They don't work - and this lie won't either.
Show a little patience, courage, and strength, my friends, and, in time, the truth will win out:
We're doing fine.
