The Look Of "Love"

So the reviews of The Master are dribbling out and they're pretty much the same - it's brilliant - but it's also NOT an expose' on Scientology, but more like a glimpse into it. It's early days, specifically.

As can be expected, I'm a little disappointed by that, but anything about a cult leader that includes the words "He's just making it up as he goes along" - as well as shots of that look Amy Adams delivers when her "teachings" are challenged (a "hate stare" all skeptics are familiar with from countless encounters with cultists and religious folks alike) - is more-than-welcome by me.

Do believers want to "save the planet" or just bury those who won't go along with their bullshit?

Since The Master appears to be about a man barely coping with the horrors of Hitler's World War II, only to find himself encountering another mind control cult in America, I'd say - along with that stare above - the answer to that question should be pretty-fucking-obvious,…

  1. "Do believers want to save the planet or bury the unbelievers"...I'd say some are hooked in by the former (but only some) and eventually every last one of them really gets their kicks out of the promise of getting to do the latter.

and sooner or later, every skeptic has to make the decision to go down with rhetorical guns blaring (because the believers always outnumber the skeptics) or just bunker up and try to survive it...way I see it, the clock's done almost wound down
