What I take from this is: we, as a whole, have been complicit for allowing France (especially) and Europe (in general) to parade around as a paragon of culture, sophistication, and enlightenment -- and accepting a role for ourselves as somehow backward, stupid, and (heh) the heart of Western darkness...the wild, wild West; the child to Europe's tutor; our "betters".
We would be better off and wiser for it if we called it out for the bullshit that it is. Perhaps the world would be better off if we did as well.
