It's Not About Race. It's Never Been About Race. But Let A Black Guy Do Something And - BAM! - Totally Racial

I'm still thinking about the whole Trayvon thing because, while it had nothing to do with the shutdown, it's the reason Republicans aren't getting anywhere. They were laughing over a dead kid's body and, whether they like it or not, that's the context what they're doing now is seen in. They look like monsters.

When I mentioned that blacks were grieving for Trayvon, one white guy made noises about Martin's family, raising money from his death, and then immediately started shouting "Fuck you". I personally saw this guy bragging about how badly he wanted to shoot a black person, and no one else called him on it, before I'd said anything. I'm not even sure if anybody else said anything after I did. It's just a normal way for the group to look at things, I guess. Blacks don't grieve for their children like white people, fuck you.

There's an argument out there - which I'm sympathetic to - that, at 19, Trayvon was a Temporary Jigsaw into the "Thug Life," and headed for trouble. Fair enough. I still don't think he had to die. You know why? Here's my first reason:

That's just one headline from Mike Adams at NaturalNews.com, and, as you can see in it, he spreads a wicked amount of misinformation, preys on the sick and dying, defames those trying to save lives, tries to give science and medicine a bad name, and profits from the entire rip-off enterprise. He's Alan Krumwiede from the movie Contagion come to life. AND NOBODY DOES A DAMNED THING ABOUT IT. Even when he hurts white people! He's part of a NewAge movement.

How many people is he hurting with the garbage he's spreading? I'm not going to even try to suggest he hasn't already killed someone. And yet, white people accept him as part of the landscape, some even viewing him as a hero - you know, like George Zimmerman.

Is Mike Adams worse than Trayvon Martin - even after drinking Lean? If not, where's the pistol-packing posse of white guys and gals, out for blood? Where's the call for justice? Or the outrage he's raising money from deceiving people about a child with cancer?

Human beings rarely get any lower, but this guy is POPULAR. He's got actual defenders. I'm pretty sure, since my gun-waving friend has let it be known he's into some pretty well-debunked nonsense, that he's one of them. And he wants to kill blacks.

Second reason - how about Kevin Trudeau? I did a post on him not too long ago. He owes the government $37 million, for basically the same kind of fraud as Mike Adams, and he faces no serious problems. Sure, there's a bunch of us lonely websites practically devoted to bringing him down but, compared to a guy with that much money stowed away, we mean nothing.

And, when it comes to vigilantes or revenge fantasists who want to make this country work, nothing's what we got there, too. Kevin Trudeau is rich and, as far as most white people are concerned, that's all you need to know to admire him. Trayvon was 19, so he might not had gotten around to launching his outrageously popular start-up just yet - sorry.

And he wasn't white, either. So now, since his Tupac-loving ass won't grow up to mature, he won't even have the opportunity to run any major scams on his country, or the world, because he's now in the dirt he would've happily driven someone's finances into because white people don't really care about crime.

If you're white, I mean. Right?

Come on, you guys, catch on soon, this shit is getting tiring,...

I Need Donations (But Spreading This Around Will Help)

Cool - about 9 months ago someone on Reddit got the word out about TED - finally:

The TED name is being dragged through the mud in Valencia, Spain, where a TEDx-approved event is promoting pseudoscientific stuff like (and I quote): crystal therapy, Egyptian psychoaromatherapy, healing through the Earth, homeopathy and even "basic mind control".

I'm not really sure how this event got approved by the TED headquarters, but almost every respected scientific journalist in Spain is outraged by it.

Some of the speakers (Google-translated for non-Spanish speakers).

Amma - Mahatma (Great Soul) of Hugs, Lots of Politicians go to Her to Receive Her Blessings.

José Rius - Reiki Master, Master Reconnection, Basic Mind Control, Zen and Crystal Theraphy Specialist.

Aura Küpper - Energetic Healing through Earth, Rebirthing Therapy, Angelic Reiki and author of a book called "Doctors from Heaven".

Adoracion Ferreres - Master in Clinical Psychology and Natural Therapies. Technical Expert in Bio-Energetic and Holistic, Egyptian Psycho-Aromatherapy and Transpersonal Homeotherapy.

The whole event is "women-oriented" and marketed as a female empowerment gig, which to me adds insult to the injury, as if women were incapable to distinguish true science from utter superstitious, anti-scientific bullshit.

Seeing the TED name associated with this freak show in a country where science and education have already been cornered and budget-cut by its own government is extremely sad. TED should react and examine its own standards in order to avoid being ashamed by these hordes of rain-makers and mystic scam artists in the future.

Ask and you will receive - today I found this hysterical screed from Natural News' freakazoid ringleader, Mike Adams:

Allow me to be the first to announce that TED is dead. Why? Because the group that organizes so-called "TED talks" has been thoroughly hijacked by corporate junk science and now openly rejects any talks about GMOs, food as medicine, or even the subject of how food can help prevent behavioral disorders in children. All these areas of discussion are now red-flagged from being presented on any TED stage.

This is openly admitted by TEDx itself in a little-known letter publicly published on December 7, 2012.

In that letter, TED says that people who talk about GMOs are engaged in "pseudoscience." Those who discuss the healing potential of foods are spreading "health hoaxes."

The letter also advises TEDx organizers to, "reject bad science, pseudoscience and health hoaxes," meaning anyone who talks about GMOs, "food as medicine" or similar topics.

And, sure enough, here's the letter from TED, and a list of some of the banned topics - all of which are TMR favorites:

"Healing," including reiki, energy fields, alternative health and placebos, crystals, pyramid power

"Free energy" and perpetual motion machines, alchemy, time travel

The neuroscience of [fill in the blank] — not saying this will all be non-legitimate, but that it’s a field where a lot of goofballs are right now

The fusion of science and spirituality. Be especially careful of anyone trying to prove the validity of their religious beliefs and practices by using science.

That wording, alone, says this was a major "win" for common sense. And that means it was a good day. After all these years, a finger's been put in the dyke, somewhere where it matters:

Amongst the real barbarians - those who've encouraged it and/or let the nonsense go on.

So yeah, right now, you guys can't see me but - whether I need money or not - I'm smiling,...

Like Applying A Zapper To Our Brains

“Why, oh, why do I keep perusing NaturalNews.com?

Why do I subject myself to wave after wave of neuron-apoptosing stupidity of a magnitude that even activation of NF-kappaB, Akt, and neuronal cell survival signaling pathways can barely keep the killing stupidity at bay? I guess it's because it provides such good blog fodder for a skeptical blog dedicated to science- and evidence-based medicine. On the other hand, it often gives me a headache to read its contents. Really, it does. I mean, looking at how Mike Adams, the Woo-meister Supreme and Chief Tin Foil Hat responsible for the lunacy there, regularly serves up fare that alternates between the simply over-the-top hilarious (unintentionally, of course) and the truly vile (although leaning more towards the vile) that the alternating current of fun woo and dumb woo seriously stresses the electrical impulses flowing through my brain.

Perhaps I could use some acupuncture for that headache.

But not just any acupuncture. Oh, no. That would be too mundane, too boring, too...pedestrian. Needles? Stuck into the skin? Physically? How primitive! There might even be a tiny drop of blood! We can't have that! No, I'm a 21st century kind of guy, and I need a 21st century form of woo. It needs to be high tech woo of the finest caliber. Just like Dr. Evil, I want my frikkin' sharks to have frikkin' laser beams.

That's right:

Laser acupuncture!”

Orac, cracking me up more than I thought he could, with another dose of Respectful Insolence
