The Macho Response: Butterfly McQueen

"As my ancestors are free from slavery, I am free from the slavery of religion."

-- Butterfly McQueen, the black actress from "Gone With The Wind," in a series of Madison, Wisconsin bus posters advocating for atheism, in The Badger Herald.

  1. I am so very ugh, pissed off, out of my own control just now, pissed off, about the egregious use of one of my very favorite actresses in the service of destroying hope --

Please forgive rant, just now --

I have long been a quiet fan of both Butterfly McQueen and Hattie MacDaniel, and it FUCKING PISSES ME OFF TO SEE THEM USED IN THE SERVICE OF ATHEISM.

    My dear lord Jesus.

    Sorry, my friend.

Thanks for allowing me to rant.

  2. My friend,

Butterfly McQueen has always been a special friend to me.

She was deeply spiritual. Never mind her uses culturally, as a caricature. The real Ms. McQueen is, in fact, a true queen, as cliche as it may sound. She was a beautiful soul, and a hero to me.

A very special lady. I will fight cultural perceptions of her till my dying day.
