The Only Race (Is The One For Coming To Our Senses)

I don't approve of this, at all (who hits a guy that just lost his job?) but, as a vision of the zeitgeist, this photo strikes me as funny while making me wonder, "Who's helping us navigate this nonsense?"
"An unidentified man was hospitalized with a massive head injury Friday following an apparent bias-fueled attack in the West Village, witnesses and officials said.
Witnesses on Greenwich Ave. near W. 12th St. said the white man — who cops said is in his 30s — was belting back beers outside Benny’s Burritos about 5:30 p.m. when he began mouthing off to a black customer in the outdoor seating area.
“You n-----s are why I lost my job,” witnesses overheard the man say.
Outraged, the black man punched the bigoted boozer, sending him reeling backward onto the rain-slick sidewalk."

Does anybody care that we should be far past this type of juvenile behavior by now? Two Americans, who would probably be friends under normal circumstances, tripping on what they both know is the most superficial aspect of our heritage? And then there's these words that have become red flags, giving the recipient license to kill? Come on. Instead of trying to eliminate "bitch" and "nigger" - an impossible task in a country with our history - we should be trying to teach ourselves some self-control, how about that? Anybody down with that? Or will it stay this happy-happy joy-joy lie with outstanding outbursts?
“Delusion is always dangerous,” said Barbara Ehrenreich at a speech in 2009 about how this mandatory optimism may have crashed the economy. Ehrenreich is the author of Bright-Sided: How Positive Thinking is Undermining America. Mandatory optimism, she says, “is just plain cruel.”
She spoke of how this cult-like mentality, where no negativity is allowed, affects victims of cancer, natural disasters, those living in poverty and the unemployed. On top of everything else, there is societal pressure on victims to stay positive, too.
“In addition to your disease,” Ehrenreich says, “you’ve got this thing wrong in your head which you’ve got to work on, too.”
Ehrenreich warned that negative thinking could be just as delusional, however. Her solution is not either of those, but in realism; “trying to see the world not colored by either our wishes or our fears.”

I think so highly of Americans it's sometimes hard for me to grasp why such pleas are necessary,...

Brooklyn Is For Believers

The Rest Of You Think You're Being So Smart

"I don't feel that I have to support him just because I'm black. There's this expectation that because he's black and I'm black, I have to run to support him,...I'm trying to get people thinking beyond race."
-- Carl Heastie, The Bronx's Democratic Chairman and a Democrat I can support, because A) he's not supporting Harold Ford, Jr., B) he's showing he knows more about living post-racially, in the here-and-now, than everyone who still (wrongly) claims it's something we have to aspire to in the future - and saying what, I thought, I should've heard a lot more of during Obama's election - and C) he's, also, probably opening himself up for a world of hurt, if I can trust The New York Daily News.

Killer Queen

"Memories of Sophie and Gracie: A Puppies' Memorial" is inspired by the passing of the talk show host's beloved Cocker Spaniel, Sophie, who died after choking on a ball last year, and her Golden Retriever, Gracie, who recently died from kidney failure.

"If those were two children that died under those causes, I think the world would freak out," said Edwards, adding that he made the piece to point out there are precautionary measures pet owners can do to keep their pets safe. "I think having two pets die within a year means its time to re-evaluate your home. ..."

Fresh Blood (Smeared Everywhere)

"So, let's review. In 1995, a uniformed Secret Service officer SWORE, on penalty of PERJURY, that he SAW, this, thing, this Maggie Williams, take documents, boxes of them, I believe, from Vince Fosters' office. Maggie Williams testified that this Secret Service agent was a LIAR. Everybody's a liar in Clinton World. All those Arkansas State troopers were liars when they testified that he sent them out to get chicks for him. Paula Jones was lying. Kathleen Willey was lying. Quanita Brodrick was lying when she told the world, on the 60 Minutes program, that BILL CLINTON RAPED her. Monica Lewinski was lying. Her ick stained Blue Dress was lying. ****, even Josh Steiner was lying. Remember Josh? He was some kind of staffer for the Clintons, who was testifying in one of the myriad scandals that seem to follow the Clintons wherever they go. When what he had written in his diary became evidence against the sworn testimony of the Clintons, Josh Steiner simply testified, UNDER OATH, that he had LIED to his DIARY. So HE was a liar. But I digress. I think that Maggie Williams is the PERFECT choice for Hillary. PERFECT. What I DON'T understand, is how this woman, with everything that is KNOWN about her hasn't been shunned by society. And it's not rumour, we KNOW her. She has NO character, is a stranger to the truth, and frankly, really has no redeeming quality about her whatsoever. What kind of a moron would suppot her and her RAPIST husband? The fact that she's neck and neck in this race reflects more on the utter stupidity of the Democrat voters than it does of Mrs. Rapist. P.T. Barnum must be smiling."
