The National Review: Conservatives Are Wrong On Race

Today TMR feels like Annie Hall, getting to be all "La-Dee-Dah," while others are freaking-the-fuck-out:

Where's the usually-vocal-white-supported "Uncle Tom" vote since Michael Brown's murder?

Wait - there's "a history in which blacks were routinely disfavored, beaten, and even murdered by the governments that were ostensibly established to protect them"? But TMR is told, mostly by whites, this is a lie. America's a black paradise and, life is so good, blacks should be "happy" whites brought us here to serve them. (TMR faces that insult, somehow, online and off, almost every day - and not by Klansmen, but whites who consider themselves (a very significant distinction) enlightened on race. So enlightened - they know so much, you see - like all concerned citizens, they don't want to hear about it anymore!) How can they be so wrong?

White America's parents, and grandparents, made the costumes they wear today.

It's easy. Because - and this is what whites don't want to admit - just like they know they enjoy having all of America's stolen money (and not only do they enjoy it, but they will tease and harass others who aren't part of the crime, unmercilessly) they also know this how the monsters - known as their racist ancestors - planned it all along:

Illegal Immigrants Ain't A Black Issue After Reparations

How many blacks, today, are "casualties" of white's centuries-long obsession with killing us?

The photo, above, is from a KKK lynching in 1981. Two decades after I was born, though, still about 50 years after white folks started getting sick of themselves. (What white folks, today, call "ancient history" or "didn't happen" or  - when they want to be specific in their denial - "didn't happen to you.") Strangely, it reminded me The Drudge Report has a link to this load of crap in The National Review today:

When your countrymen have a history of not caring about you, it's awful hard to care.

The National Review. The same determined members of "the party that freed the slaves," so concerned for our welfare, they now stand against reparations for blacks - which would make their illegal immigration argument mute - while reminding us what a terrible situation they, themselves, are leaving us in. Because DEMOCRATS.

Whites Think Justice Equals "Everything Will Fall Apart"

That LBD wasn't foolin' nobody, Lady.

Just as whites imagined there was nothing compelling in America before they arrived, TMR's hearing how they now also believe there will be nothing after their influence is gone. It's either that, or readers of, say, The National Review are just learning to like "playing the victim": 

"Considering his life experience, I was shaken to the core by his gratitude at the prospect of 'not seeing the end' of America — not because I was surprised he said it, but because I totally agree that 'the end' is coming and that my husband and I probably will be around to see it."

The opposite, of this, isn't to copy it.

Sigh. What to do with the fatalism of abusers? Many of them were already trying to bring about the end of the world - for Jesus. But, no matter the delusion, they couldn't (and still can't) be talked out of it. They're completely sold on the concreteness of their nightmares.

Getting a handle on losing a grip.

The source of their terror? Things are changing. Their heroes are being outted as corrupt, starting with the Founding Fathers. Their culture exposed as racist, created by the Founding Fathers. Their wealth, targeted as stolen, and taken by the Founding Fathers. Their very lives seen as false - even by white kids - and it all began to fall apart with the lies told to us about the Founding Fathers. Do you buy it?

The name of this band is Talking Heads.

So the "world" IS ending - the white world, believing in the Founding Fathers. The world with whites in charge, whites as the authority, whites as beautiful, whites as rich, whites as anything other than what whites appear to be - white. No better or worse than anybody else. There will still be a lot of whites and white culture. It's America. But one that copes.

No shooting - no jumping out of windows - we'll be just fine.

Here's hoping they can stand the strain,….

A woman any man could respect and honor.

She danced in the opera show, "Porgy and Bess." Angelou would go on to live in Egypt and then in Ghana, and she taught herself French, Spanish, Fanti, Italian and Arabic.

While Angelou is beloved for her autobiographies, she also penned a children's book, two cookbooks, a line of Hallmark greeting cards and two screenplays.

Though Angelou called herself a "reluctant actor," her performances would earn her the highest of accolades."

Unlike traditional American celebrity - which is now this or Cliven Bundy.

Maya Angelou, like most of her generation, was more-than twice as good - just to be considered "good enough" - compare:

Whites Shouldn't Ask "Why Do They Hate Us?" Anymore

"He chuckles,…" 

 The fact The American Thinker, somehow, hears non-existent laughter (at white's expense) in Ta-Nehisi Coates' essay, “The Case for Reparations,” should tell us all we need to know about the sick, cynical, "Dark Side Of The Moon"-type paranoia, that plays with itself in the Right-Wing mind.

We can also learn from The National Review - saying "the most valuable aspect of Mr. Coates’ essay is as a corrective to the tendency to treat the systematic political and economic repression of black Americans as though it were a matter of distant history" but, conveniently, leaving out what was happening before Coates’ essay appeared - when conservatives, alone, were calling the harm "ancient."

Now, they say, Coates' "valuable" corrections change nothing - surprised? We shouldn't be:

America's apartheid South Africa-style of cultural conditioning means, all that makes sense to whites, is they carry on - happily and without reminders - with the historic theft and rape of blacks.

Letting blacks acknowledge the centuries-old race-based plunder, for no reason other than the color of our skin, is the best educated white Americans now say they can possibly do. Because that's what a good education's for.

Should it be added that they "chuckled" as they said so?

No, probably not, because - contrary to white people's behavior and popular beliefs - that would be racist, unfair, and a lie,...

 

I Am The Who (But I Can See For Miles AND Miles Davis)

There's no hiding it now.

Discovering understanding, when other's don't, can make life difficult.

It feels good to look back, and see TMR was not just right, but also (because the proposition's - openly backed here - could seem so outrageous at one time) was just-as-clearly ahead of most everyone else today, when it comes to assessing the direction of Western culture.

Conventional wisdom, on the direction any reparations discussions could be taking, has been delivered by conservatives in their traditional genteel fashion:

"Did you jerk off when you did this?

 

Because that's about all you got out of it, right?

Pointing out the big issues of the day.

You get the idea - visions of American patriotism, one and all. 

"People sleep. Sleep in the daytime. If they want to. If they want to."

But now, with The Case for Reparations by Ta-Nehisi Coates - lo and behold - Americans ARE talking about reparations, and how the time is right, and even how easy it would be to do it. Vox.com's Matt Yglesias says it plain:

"Monetary reparations are generally viewed as an extreme idea, but the reality is that financial leveling is one of the aspects of racial inequality that it would easiest to fix if the country wanted to."

I can be King.

Consequently, compiling a blog that has stressed culture - not politics - as the moving force in the world, reparations has naturally been TMR's focus for some time now (damn what came) because that's been the job.

Ushering TMR readers to the future.

We can be Heroes.

It's not a future many conservatives want to be part of. As of this writing, Hot Air, for instance, has said nothing about Coates' article - and they're not alone. There's been few Right-Wing comments in reply. 

The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch.

Glenn Reynolds mentioned it - of course - wondering if making whites talk about race is the "true reparations." The National Review even read it, and went so far as to praise Coates for "a corrective to the tendency to treat the systematic political and economic repression of black Americans as though it were a matter of distant history." But, then, they, too, dissed the article for encouraging a dialogue about race "as though we ever talked about anything else." Question: 

"And he wore a hat, and he had a job, and he brought home the bacon, so that no one knew."

 If whites are so well-versed on race - and have had so much dialogue already - why did The National Review praise Coates for a "corrective" to the history whites, alone, insist on?

My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts.

Deliberately not reading Ta-Nehisi Coates' Case For Reparations (just as they deliberately avoided seeing the recent film 12 Years a Slave) yet feeling compelled to comment as though they have - that's the best we can expect from conservatives. Here's William A. Jacobson - a man I usually admire - proving he'd only skimmed the piece:

"Coates never gives the answer as to who gets what and how."

Charlie Brown never tried to hurt nobody.

Jacobson writes almost exclusively of slavery, as though it - and not housing discrimination - was the focus of Coates' argument. In other words, Jacobson - in true conservative lock-step fashion - either missed (or willingly ignored) what everyone else caught:

Just looking into things.

The article isn't about slavery, or "who gets what and how," it's about the desire and need for a study. 

"Will America ever be ready for a Congressional commission to study reparations?"

What if someone's hiding something?

I doubt Prof. Jacobson would ignore as much about Benghazi.

And what would make Ann Althouse say this to her readers?

  "For those of you who are relying on the old argument that you (or your ancestors) did not own slaves, you're revealing that you didn't read the article. Coates is not arguing for reparations for slavery alone. He's talking about much more recent history. Reject his argument if you like, but show that you understand what his argument is."

"See, we can't have big government, because then we can't kill anybody."

Althouse said it because - and this has continued even after she said it - her readers also ignored what's in Ta-Nehisi Coates' article, and just kept on passing down their ancestor's kleptomaniac dreams of (continued) domestic terrorism: 

  "If this passes, a race war will launch and I feel it will be fully justified."

"I can't close my mouth or it'll stop saying racist things."

TMR pictures a group of white men, right now, trying to figure out what they're going to do to maintain white supremacy, as they feel it, finally, slipping through their fingers. 

Did lynched black people get hurt?

Because of a request for a study. 

Phil Robertson and Cliven Bundy's definition of what blacks were "happy" with.

That's how monsters think.

Whatever they decide  - as always with America's racists - they'll "feel it will be fully justified" merely because they imagined it.
