The Althouse Blog: Where Whites Show How It's Done

Not "the most racist" but - when it comes to consistency - giving whites a real run for the money

White people are making blacks even more cynical about white people

Whites Have Few Black Friends But Say Others "Hate"

With this social break-down, whites can't help but betray others,...

"One consequence of racism and segregation is that many American whites know little or nothing about the daily lives of African Americans. Black America’s least-understood communities are those poor, hyper-segregated places we once called ghettos. These neighborhoods are not far away, but they might as well be on the moon. The only news most people ever hear about the inner city comes from grim headlines; the only residents they can name are characters on The Wire. Of course, ignorance of a community doesn’t stop outsiders from having opinions about it or passing laws that govern it. But those opinions, based on stereotypes and catchphrases, make it difficult to conduct meaningful public deliberation about social policy. And the laws, all too often, harm people who have enough going against them already."

Bill Cosby Shows Why White Supremacists Love Using "Respectability Politics" To Cover Up America's Crimes

Maintaining white supremacy's run is the real point, like pretending Bill O'Reilly's intelligent

Like white America's now-almost-unseen lynching fetish, Bill Cosby's version of respectability politics was the art of hiding evil behind the facade of a white picket fence:

This message was brought to you by the same culture that bombed four little black girls in church

A rapist - or a racist culture - can get away with murder playing that game,...

Giuliani Is Proving Why Ta-Nehisi Coates Is Invaluable

Almost too predictable for mention - but it was

This weekend, when Chuck Todd asked former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani about the preponderance of white police officers patrolling black neighborhoods nationally, what did Giuliani do? He did exactly as Ta-Nehisi Coates said he would,...and changed the subject. Here's Coates in his piece, "Black People Are Not Ignoring 'Black on Black' Crime":

“The pattern is the transmutation of black protest into moral hectoring of black people. Don Imus profanely insults a group of black women. But the real problem is gangsta rap. Trayvon Martin is killed. This becomes a conversation about how black men are bad fathers,...”

And here, sure enough, is a demonstration of that: Giulliani prefers saying anything - literally anything - to staying on-point, because:

Because, if Giulliani was looking his country "in the eye," he'd surely see he's led a force full of resentful, and unrepentant, white supremacists who are incapable of dealing with the problems white supremacy has created for us all:

But he can't say that - he can't face it - so we get this, instead,...

Bringing It Home (When Bill Cosby No Longer Has One)

Who agreed with Bill Cosby politically and follows the "teachings" of a guy with a 14 year old wife?

All I have to look at is two Pew Research Center polls, one saying:

And another saying:

And I get confused what the Right's arguing over.

To Bill Cosby this is a brown photo, but it looks like Michael Brown to me

Dr. King specifically mentioned “the unspeakable horrors of police brutality” as something blacks must live with - and something we’d stopped being satisfied with - in his “I Have A Dream” speech.

Wash, rinse, repeat: Bill Cosby's guide to success

And yet, no matter what “unspeakable horrors” they know blacks are living with, there is still an expectation to - let’s say your family’s being torn apart by the larger culture - endure it with 1963's nobel stoicism; an almost-inhuman calm, for (this is rich) the sake of the majority’s shaky nerves while they further assess us for possible signs of dignity.

If Bill Cosby jumped off a cliff, would you do it, too?

The same folk who now knows they just freaked-the-fuck-out and called the first black president an “incompetent” because he wouldn’t lose his head over a single American death from ebola from Africa.

Misunderstandings aren't as common when Bill Cosby's putting his hands on you

They also got the Benghazi thing wrong - while loudly criticizing Obama for (what else?) “incompetence.”

You gotta believe it'll all be fine in the end,...Bill Cosby's been orchestrating

They, unnecessarily, made even that black man’s life infinitely more difficult, but - looking at the upside - they also got to be heard offering uninformed solutions to a non-existent dilemma, so yeah, let's hear it again for life in my never-ending NewAge America.

Visualizing the Left and Right, together, in a single physical form - after Bill Cosby

Racially, we’re really "making progress" now:

Racist Whites Don't Think Yesterday Has Ever Existed

In 1814, when blacks were the most expensive property in America, whites supposedly loved those they forced to wear rags.

BUT

In 2014, when blacks are worth nothing after the destruction of slavery, whites hate us and complain it's about how we dress.

In 2011, whites had "a Golden Opportunity to Win the Latino Vote," and wanted to do so - and what that did to blacks didn't matter.

BUT

In 2014, whites now say "Barack Obama Throws Black Americans Under the Bus" after winning the hispanic vote - and that's all that matters to them.

And the lesson here is:

Whites are so consumed with telling themselves (and others) their delusional lies, they think people dedicated to studying history will also forget whatever they'd previously said and done.

And that's a losing strategy,...

Whites Can't Even Count (1919 Came Before "The 60s")

Wear the "wrong" pants and blacks deserve whatever whites do

Racist white's oppressive focus on the blacks they've made poor - and not white's own racist behavior - began long before LBJ:

We must still be in the Reconstruction Era

Blacks seem to change much easier than whites - why is that?

When racist whites focus, on what racist whites do, then racist whites might become respectable themselves,...

This is how a white person looks "thinking about race"

ADDED:
History has shown that 'acting better' does not bring about being 'treated better.' We must remember that four girls were in Sunday school when their Birmingham church was bombed. Amadou Diallo did not commit any crime, obeyed the police, but yet was shot 41 times by the police. We can count numerous times in which women were raped not because they wore short skirts or were intoxicated but simply because they were women. This is why in "A Case For Reparations", Ta-Nehisi Coates claims:
The kind of trenchant racism to which black people have persistently been subjected can never be defeated by making its victims more respectable. The essence of American racism [or any hatred for that matter] is disrespect.
Moreover, respectability politics is not a philosophy where we value morality for morality sake but it is used as a means to achieve respect from Whites and men: a goal that may never be achieved.

The Republicans Decide (The Republicans Are Insane)

Power bought with black's stolen money + crazy = white's "happiness"

Ann Althouse and Meade will be over-joyed to hear this assessment of their political acumen, I'm sure:

That not a single defender of the previous insanity has retracted their claims is how you know you can always trust what Right-Wing supporters have said,...
