If you've got the right (white) friends you can say it as often as you like. I certainly have. It's a way of cracking jokes and blowing off the steam of racial tension. And then the next time I deal with a black person I already know I'm not perfect so I'm willing to show some respect.
It works and it doesn't work. Black people are the best, but not all of them all of the time. I think you're right about our history being all too recent. It could take a long time for that dust to settle.
I thought the blog was written in English, by a really smart, really clever, really talented guy who's busy letting his bitterness suck him down into an abyss.
I'm not sure that's a black thing.
