A True Story: Dan & SF's Fab Four - Jim, John, George & Harvey (Who Milked It)

In November of 1978, immediately after San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone were murdered in City Hall, the police asked their assassin, former police and fireman (and, now, former Supervisor) Dan White when he'd previously ever brought his firearm to the federal building:

"I guess it was a few months ago. I, I was afraid of some of the threats that were made and I had a committee hearing coming up where some of these people were going to appear and I, and I know they had a history of violence..."

Who were "these people" with "a history of violence" making "threats" but still openly "going to appear" at an upcoming committee hearing? Back in 2003, the late Michael Bellefountaine's work in the article "Research on Harvey Milk Renews Calls for Reappraisal of Peoples Temple" hinted at one possibility:

"If there were any connection between the City Hall murders and Peoples Temple, it would clearly have been because Milk and Moscone were too closely tied to Jones and the Temple."

You think? And what did "too closely tied" even mean? Could it be what the cult leader himself, Jim Jones, once told Peoples Temple member Deborah Layton?

"Don't think you can get away with bad-mouthing this church. Mayor Moscone is my friend and he'll support my efforts to seek you out and destroy you." 

Michael Bellefountaine seemed to think so when he also wrote:

"One story has it that Milk asked Peoples Temple to remove his name from the church’s list of supporters when reports of violence and theft first came to light, and that he was outraged when the Temple failed to comply with his demand. Eventually, history settled on an official story: Jim Jones was a master manipulator who used unwitting local politicians to gain power for himself. The politicians, including Milk and Moscone, used Jones for volunteers and votes, while remaining personally distant and blissfully unaware of rumors of Temple violence, abuse, theft and even murder."

But were they "personally distant and blissfully unaware"? Dan White certainly didn't think so - which seems to be entirely why Harvey Milk got himself killed:

I didn't agree with [Harvey] on a lot of things but I was always honest, you know, and here they were devious and then he started kind of smirking cause he knew, he knew that I wasn't going to be reappointed. And ah, . . . .it just didn't make any impres­sion on him. I started to say you know how hard I worked for it and what it meant to me and my family an then my reputation as, as a hard worker, good honest person and he just kind of smirked at me as if to say, too bad an then an then I just got all flushed an, an hot an I shot him.

Which sounds too guilty, until you ponder political life in San Francisco, under cultism. Consider another resident of the wrong persuasion, John Barbagelata (March 29, 1919 – March 19, 1994) San Francisco's last Republican Supervisor and the 1975 mayoral candidate, who lost to George Moscone by 5,000 votes:

Barbagelata...opposed labor unions, hippies, and leftist radicals, which made him a target...He received numerous death threats, a bomb was exploded outside his house, a gun was fired through the windows of his West Portal real estate office, and two mail bombs were sent to his house, eventually requiring 24-hour police and FBI protection for his family....Barbagelata ran for mayor in 1975 against progressive candidate George Moscone,...For the rest of his life, Barbagelata maintained that the Peoples Temple far-left religious cult, led by Jim Jones, committed election fraud in the 1975 election by busing in out-of-town church members to double- and triple-vote for Moscone under the names of dead voters.

That sounds like devious behavior, if you ask me. But no one asks. Nor cares:

"After the mass suicide at Jonestown in 1978, Temple members revealed to The New York Times that the Temple arranged for "busloads" of members to be bussed from Redwood Valley to San Francisco to vote in the election. A former Temple member stated that many of those members were not registered to vote in San Francisco, while another former member said "Jones swayed elections." Another former Temple member stated of Jones that "he told us how to vote." She stated that Temple members were required to produce booth stubs to prove that they voted, and members that could not produce such stubs were "pushed around, shoved and physically abused." When asked how Jones could know for whom they voted, the member responded "You don't understand, we wanted to do what he told us to."

They like the pretty little Leftist lie, instead: The pretty lie that they're our heroes.

"San Francisco District Attorney Freitas set up a special unit to investigate election fraud charges. He named Temple member Timothy Stoen, whom he had hired as an assistant district attorney, to lead the unit. Stoen employed Temple members as volunteers to help with work on the investigation. The Temple was not mentioned in the proceedings that followed."

Watch Out For Flying Debris (Or Even Flying Monkeys)

Even with The Master in theaters - and with Scientology's twisted history of battling the government until L. Ron Hubbard's death and beyond (AND even with the latest tales of three deaths in Oklahoma and the cult operating a mini-concentration camp in California) these politicians still have the audacity to spin us, I mean really whipping the truth around, until we can't be spun no more:

Three U.S. congressmen and a top-level government official attended the opening of the Church of Scientology’s National Office in Washington, D.C., Thursday. 

Their attendance marked a significant endorsement from members of a government that was once partially at war with the organization. 

Lawmakers in attendance were Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Indiana Republican Rep. Dan Burton and Illinois Democratic Rep. Danny Davis. Liz Gibson, Senior Program Manager at the Federal Emergency Management Agency was also in attendance. 

Jackson Lee applauded the organization. 

“I want to thank L. Ron Hubbard for recognizing that courage is not rewarded but it is valued,” said the congresswoman. L. Ron Hubbard was the church’s founder. 

“And to be able to have the wonderment of people coming together and ensuring that people come together for peace. That’s what I see in the Church, that you have come together for peace. I welcome and support that,” she said.

And - along with remembering The People's Temple cult leader and mass murderer, Jim Jones, being welcomed to head the San Francisco Housing Authority by supervisor Harvey Milk and mayor George Moscone - "what I see" is the phrase, "You can fool some of the people some of the time,…" being as relevant today as it ever was.

Nanny Of The Month? (He's Weirdo Of The Year!)

As you can see, Reason TV has made my NewAge buddy, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, it's "Nanny of the Month". That's cool - anything that brings this creep negative attention is fine by me - but, while I agree with Hot Air's Ed Morrissey that this particular bit of negative attention is for the wrong reason, even Morrissey's criticism doesn't identify why Newsom is such a nightmare for The City. Here, let me paint you a picture.

Wait - just like with painting a picture, it's hard to know where to begin, because Gavin Newsom is such an awful piece of work. Do I go for the personal items, or tell you about what awful shape The City's left in, after two terms under the man I've dubbed Gruesome Newsom? Since most people don't live there, and only have the picture postcard image of the place to go on, let's start with the state of The City.

According to SFist, there was a recent murder, across the street from my old apartment, in Buena Vista Park. There was also a robbery and stabbing in Delores Park, and (in case that doesn't make you feel safe) some guy - who was found wearing a full suit of body armor - was shot 16 times downtown, in the Tenderloin. Is it any wonder the SFist also contains two items celebrating "colorful crime reporting" and "Why People Hate San Francisco"? Really, under Gavin Newsom, San Francisco is - without a doubt - the worst run big city in the U.S.:

"Despite its good intentions, San Francisco is not leading the country in gay marriage. Despite its good intentions, it is not stopping wars. Despite its spending more money per capita on homelessness than any comparable city, its homeless problem is worse than any comparable city's. Despite its spending more money per capita, period, than almost any city in the nation, San Francisco has poorly managed, budget-busting capital projects, overlapping social programs no one is certain are working, and a transportation system where the only thing running ahead of schedule is the size of its deficit.

It's time to face facts: San Francisco is spectacularly mismanaged and arguably the worst-run big city in America. This year's city budget is an astonishing $6.6 billion — more than twice the budget for the entire state of Idaho — for roughly 800,000 residents. Yet despite that stratospheric amount, San Francisco can't point to progress on many of the social issues it spends liberally to tackle — and no one is made to answer when the city comes up short.

The city's ineptitude is no secret. 'I have never heard anyone, even among liberals, say, "If only [our city] could be run like San Francisco,'" says urbanologist Joel Kotkin. 'Even other liberal places wouldn't put up with the degree of dysfunction they have in San Francisco. In Houston, the exact opposite of San Francisco, I assume you'd get shot.'"

And still, rather than throwing Gavin Newsom in jail, the people of California are seriously considering allowing him in another political office. Why? Because, as far as we can tell (and this shows their priorities, BIG TIME) they think he's cute!

Well, there's that, but - here we get to the personal stuff - he's also the perfect representative for this most NewAge of all NewAge locations in America.

His best friend was also his campaign manager. Newsom slept with his wife.

And, after making like they were shocked - shocked! - that Newsom would do such a thing, the people of San Francisco re-elected him with 75% of the vote - to prove (just like in France) the "Paris of the West" wasn't filled with a bunch of prudes.

I should add that, up until that time, sleeping with his best friend's wife was, really, Newsom's only political accomplishment.

He then went into a NewAge rehab program for, like, three weeks, promising he'd turned a corner and was ready to do all the marvelous things for The City he didn't get done before.

Instead, he met a C-list actress who he immediately decided to marry - after she let it be known that "Gavie Baby" only slept with his campaign manager's wife because the wife was a drunk, and a slut, who was begging for it.


A so-called psychic did the honors.

Now you may be asking yourself, with this record, what kind of people would twice elect such a worthless backstabber?

What you have to remember is that San Francisco has more cults operating in it's city limits than anywhere else in the nation - and they set the agenda - whether anyone will admit it or not. Ever since Jim Jones of the murderous People's Temple was part of the government - as payback for helping to elect the first gay supervisor, Harvey Milk, and liberal Mayor George Moscone - cults have always been part of the fabric of The City. They are in the hospitals and hospices; they own restaurants and sex clubs.

It is their values that are reflected in the phrase "only in San Francisco".

"It's worth remembering that before the people of Peoples Temple drank Jim Jones's Kool-Aid, the leftist political establishment of San Francisco gulped it down. And without the latter, the former would have never happened."

And Gavin Newsom - who, unannounced, recently disappeared with a guru to his spiritual retreat near Oprah in Hana, Hawaii - is their current leader.

Like I said, there's a lot of other names we should be able to call him as well, like unemployed.

I'm Down For A Fight (Not Down-And-Out)

One of the main themes of this blog - expressed here, here, here, here, and here - got an eloquent little hearing, from Benjamin A. Plotinsky, over at City Journal recently. In fact, it was so close to what I've been saying, I wondered if they hadn't been reading me. Whether they have or not, I'm still glad to see it out there, because it gives credence to the message I've been delivering almost from Day One:

"Cast your mind back to January 2009, when Barack Obama became the president of the United States amid much rejoicing. The hosannas—covering the inauguration was 'the honor of our lifetimes,' said MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews—by then seemed unsurprising. Over the course of a long campaign, hyperbolic rhetoric had become commonplace, so much so that online wags had started calling Obama 'the One'—a reference to the spate of recent science-fiction movies, especially The Matrix, that used that term to designate a messiah.

It all seems so long ago now, as one contemplates President Obama’s plummeting approval ratings and a suddenly resurgent Republican Party. Yet it’s worth looking closely and seriously at the election-year enthusiasm of media elites and other Obamaphiles, much of which was indeed, as the wags recognized, quasi-religious. The surprising fact is that the American Left, for all its claims to being 'reality-based' and secular, is often animated by the passions, motivations, and imagery that one normally associates with religion. The better we understand this religious impulse, the better we will understand liberal America’s likely trajectory in the years to come."

Actually, City Journal (as far as I know) is the only publication that seems to be on the same wave-length I am, also presenting us with an article about The People's Temple, by Daniel J. Flynn, that underlines the long-running Democratic Party/cult connection:

"For years prior to Jonestown’s cataclysmic finale, unheeded voices, such as journalist Les Kinsolving’s, warned America about the raven-haired preacher feted by San Francisco columnist Herb Caen, supervisor Harvey Milk, and mayor George Moscone.

Indeed, Jim Jones was a power player in Bay Area politics and thereby a player in national Democratic Party politics. Local politicians and activists benefited from the slave labor that he could provide on little notice to people political rallies and hand out campaign literature. In gratitude, Moscone appointed him chairman of San Francisco’s housing authority and Willie Brown likened Jones, a man who would eventually kill more African-Americans than any Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard, to Martin Luther King, Jr. First lady Rosalyn Carter and her husband’s running mate, Walter Mondale, both met with the cult leader. Jones even appropriated the title of Huey Newton’s book, Revolutionary Suicide, to describe the extermination of his flock (which included several of Newton’s relatives). Once Jonestown’s residents had performed this 'revolutionary suicide,' the wills left behind bequeathed all to the Soviet Union."

How anyone else is missing all this, I don't know. Or maybe I do. Look at the quote, above, and you see the name of "Saint Harvey" Milk, who just had an Oscar-winning movie made about him - starring Hugo Chavez-loving Sean Penn - but it was a movie that erased all of Milk's connections to cultism. Of course, it had to, because if the decades-long connection between the Democrats and cults were ever made explicit - a connection that is just as vibrant today as ever, if not more so - they'd lose their black support (amongst others) in a heart beat.

This is what conservatives have to understand now - this is how we finish the Democrats off. As Mr. Plotinsky says, they've got us in The Matrix right now, but I've been saying all along that I'm Rorschach from The Watchmen, and the truth I'm revealing is The Truth, and I'd rather look crazy than allow it to be covered up for the sake of lying politicians, lousy gay pride movies, or even my love for women. Unfortunately, that's exactly what's been happening, so far.

But maybe - just maybe, if everyone remembers these cultish NewAge forces destroyed my marriage, killed my mother-in-law and three others, and can get over my (more-than-justifiable) anger - they'll decide to investigate all this in depth, and everyone's perception of me will change. It ought to, because I ain't hurt nobody.

I'm "The One" that's been hurt.

Ignorance Is Bliss

"I'm not a Scientologist, and I couldn't tell you two things about it."

- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, when questioned about his dating a Scientologist.

"As of yesterday, I hardly knew anything about him."

- Lance Miller, president of Scientology's Way to Happiness Foundation International, on San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, who the cult has finally admitted they were "recruiting,...to participate in a campaign to promote L. Ron Hubbard's writings."

Ah yes - just as I've been saying all along. Let's see where we are now regarding America's favorite Cultland On A Hill:

The mayor has dated a member of the cult of Scientology (CoS) but claims to know nothing about the it, though the cult admits they were "recruiting" him. The implication being the Mayor of San Francisco, adopted home of The People's Temple, isn't up-to-speed on cults in The City or his pretty little head can't/doesn't know how to read,....two explanations which are, totally, believable. Except:

He made September 7th, 2007, a holiday for the Dahnhak Yoga cult - but claims he didn't know that group was a cult either - or that they had killed someone. (In a "blissful" manner, I'm sure.)

The cult of the peadophile Sai Baba sells their wares all over San Francisco - but, I'm sure, the Mayor knows nothing.

San Francisco's Mayor allows the Falun Gong to do their thing outside City Hall every day, because no one inside can imagine how a group of loopy, paranoid, homophobic, cultists (who have been known to set themselves on fire) might one day become a problem.

There are numerous cults working freely within the city. So many that, during a conversation about the Falun Gong, Thom Lynch of the LGBT Community Center once said, "How do we get into Chinese cults when we have so many cults here we are not addressing?" The rest of The City claims not to know what in the world he's talking about. Or what a swastika is. And the name "Mickey Mouse" escapes them as well.

San Francisco put Jim Jones, The People's Temple cult leader who murdered 900 people, in charge of it's Housing Authority. They claimed they didn't know what was going on. It's safe to assume he didn't either.

Like Ron Dellums (above) the Mayor of Oakland who endorsed Your Black Muslim Bakery until they killed a reporter covering their story, San Francisco's most popular politicians - including former-San Francisco Mayors Willie Brown and George Moscone - all endorsed The People's Temple cult and went on to glorious political careers. The public feigns ignorance, claiming that until Mayor Dellums stretches out his arm and flattens his palm, they don't know how to respond.

Anybody else noticing a pattern here? Do I know more than the entire city of San Francisco? The entire San Francisco Bay Area?

Well - I guess we'll just have to wait and see - because, Baby, this is getting GOOD!
