My Country Killed A Pretty Happy Go Lucky Child

This is great. In order to feel alright about "my place" in America, I'm comparing my situation to people who've lost limbs, or catch a dose of flesh eating bacteria. It's not so bad, then, eh? I've still got feet. Shit, I can walk to the grave. Rejiggering the American dream.

I don't dream any longer. Some of you may remember, I suffered horrific nightmares after the murders, but now, I sleep the sleep of the dead. Which I look forward to in a way I never did before. A blissful heroin-like rest, with nothing to bother me except waking. And that does bother me.

Fuck, I just noticed it's Saturday.

That sucks,...

I Still Love You (You Just Make Me Call You Names)

"The important thing is to see your hands in a dream,...in the dream in which I saw my hands, I looked in the mirror and my face was black, I'd turned into a nigger,..."

Droppin' Science Like Galileo Dropped The Orange: Nod

"We run to scandal long before we land on stupidity."

I heard somebody say that, on one of the Sunday morning talk shows, and - despite the "Hey!" Hey! Hey!" nature of the Benghazi hype - I'm also here to tell you (while feeling like that kid saying "I see dead people") the political fallout over Benghazi always fell under the heading of somebody - I ain't naming no names - engaged in their almost regularly scheduled bout of hysterical "stupidity".

When you've dealt with U.F.Oh! Oh! Oh! nuts for as long as I have, you learn to identify conspiracy theorists pretty quickly, usually recognizing A) they weren't "all there" to begin with, and B) a new wild-eyed desire to set their hair on fire, again. Unfortunately, B usually reveals itself before A, so there's an undeterminable time lag Mark Twain referred to as truth - as it "gets it's boots on".

He, too, didn't take kindly to those messing with the fabric of reality.

But conspiracy theorists are only allowed to become dark-minded, and participate in evil, because - absent a social structure based in critical thought  - minus the courts, society simply lacks the much-needed tools to effectively unravel misunderstanding. A lot of mischief can be "innocently" accomplished in the grey area this circumstance creates, as America whooshes along, under a bureaucratic apparatus designed to move slowly (as a means of gaining wisdom) leaving it's citizenry at time's unforgivable mercy until something's resolved, or someone walks away bored, broke, or just plain broken.

So what was the point of school again? What still remains relevant from all that early education? Oh sure, P.E. - running in circles - so the Smiley Faced live long enough to hopefully one day grasp what the rest of us have got rubbed in our faces:

Running in circles, on a spinning planet, is not the same thing as coping with it.

Here's another vision of "stupid" America:

It's men and women, blacks and whites, gays and straights, all (kinda) getting along.

So sure, let's say it's also an image of us still,...haphazardly working out some issues,..but nobody's screaming about their rights being even so much as unassumed, or how truly insulted they are by hot button phrases they're not even listening to. I submit to you this is convincing evidence that - at least at your neighborhood Mickey D's - there's obviously enough spectrum-wide anonymous unconditional support floating around for everybody. That includes the black guy in the pink dress waiting outside.

They just gotta know how to sell it.

To the untrained eye, this vision of America probably looks even more chaotic than the waste (in time, energy, interest, and money) of the Benghazi fallout, except, as anyone can see, these Americans know in their bones everyone's on an equal footing, that nothing's hidden, and that completely contradicts the true conspiracy theory - delivered daily in the current news/activist/media slants - that the country can't  move forward as we should. It's they who are stuck on stupid.

The rest of us are practically George Jetson.

Witness, as Americans have historically done since Einstein and the "modern" Jazz Age, all this righteous living being carried out to laughter - equal in power and protein to anything the Chatty Cathy's say -  celebrating, somehow, escaping another day with their now-probably-overly-strobe-lighted sense of reality duct-taped intact. Just like the folks on Tee Vee.

Everyday, almost, "only a flesh wound."

The reaction to uncertainty, existing in what America, and even Martin Luther King, reminded us - no, assured us - was supposed to be a "dream". Knowing nothing, conspiracy theorists live on nightmares, only sleeping comfortably within earshot of their view. Eyes closing, head falling, trailing off mumbling the words.

And here we are.

The results speak for themselves,...

Tom, Jumping On The Couch, Sheryl Crow - Nothing?

Here's the mirror:
It's a particularly cheerful headline — "Stocks Hit 5 Year High" — with a picture of wine glasses splashily clinking, angled together in a position that parallels Oprah's hands in a picture just above and to the left. Oprah looks alarmed/outraged, but only because "He even lied — to Oprah?!" And how reassuring that is. The outrage of the day is Lance Armstrong, doping and lying, the same old thing, and it's something that only vaguely affects us. Thank God.
What was the headline I saw in my dream? I won't tell you. It's not that I'm superstitious, but ideas affect minds, and it's an image I won't put out there.

Here's the image:
"Going Clear" is sometimes hard going on account of its subject matter. But it is an utterly necessary story even so. As "In Cold Blood" is now a monument to the age of New Journalism, "Going Clear" may wind up a monument to an age of enlightened corporate journalism, a time when powerful magazine editors and their book-publishing counterparts had the wherewithal to devote resources to vital stories of scant direct pertinence to their readers—stories told by full-time, expenses-paid writers backstopped by researchers, fact-checkers, lawyers and insurance companies.
The surprise isn't that Mr. Wright presents Scientology as a perplexing and alarming organization. The surprise is that he has managed to tell its story at all.

Place something here about the inability to "see the forest for the trees",...

Today's Intellectual Class Couldn't Catch A Cold

The picture of Jared Loughner as a NewAger gets reinforced a little bit more:
He did not watch TV. He disliked the news. He didn’t listen to political radio. He didn’t take sides. He wasn’t on the left. He wasn’t on the right.
He was just obsessed with 2012, conscience dreaming, mind control, brainwashing, the Buddha, and kept a shrine.

Go on - keep looking for answers in/arguing politics - like the Keystone Kops or Inspector Clouseau:

We can all rest assured you're "hot on the case".

UPDATE: We can now officially add U.F.O.s to the mix.

Metaphysics (The Kind That Requires No Study)

The very first thing NewAge spiritual seekers have got to do is change their name to something real - like Rielle:
"If she can't marry John Edwards, then marrying a famous actor is high up in those dreams of hers!"
That's the first way NewAgers create their manufactured NewAge reality:
"If she can't marry John Edwards, then marrying a famous actor is high up in those dreams of hers!"
As we've seen, this works, but only if they can find a tool to give them an inch. (Pun intended.)

If they can't attract someone by changing their name, then, as you may have guessed, they also rely on manufactured NewAge dreams - because manufactured NewAge dreams are sold as "fun".

Unfortunately, NewAgers have such major problems with the real world (that's why they do so much "self-help") instead of realizing their manufactured NewAge dreams, they end up unleashing their manufactured NewAge nightmares on others - and manufactured NewAge nightmares ain't no joke:

I said, 'I want to go to church here today.' And he said, 'What do you believe in? Are you Christian? What religion are you?'...And I said, 'Well this ain't right, you guys ain't treating me right.'

Anything can happen in a manufactured NewAge nightmare, so it almost doesn't matter what anyone "believes":

It almost didn’t matter. She was suddenly treated as if her decision had been more political than personal and she was now the embodiment of some mystical inner repose. “I’m standing for something that people have a need to feel,” she says, still bewildered, “but it’s not me! I’m not doing anything. I’m just standing there!” Even today, she says, “people come up to me with these Yodalike questions. They want to know what ‘the key’ is. And I don’t have an answer.”
Which kind of makes us wonder, once one understands the dynamics of a manufactured NewAge nightmare, why all the stupid questions to begin with?

What could anyone possibly get out of it?

Maybe, just maybe, the true essence of creating manufactured NewAge nightmares for others - instead of a better reality - is the NewAger's "never-ending search" for someone with Star Wars-like wisdom, or a key to everything? Maybe, just maybe, instead, what they really need to learn is how to accept their own ignorance and just look good and shut-the-fuck- up, huh?

Think they can they handle that?

You must be dreaming!

Wake-the-fuck-up, non-believer!

These are the manufactured NewAge stars of thier own manufactured NewAge world!

Like a bunch of twisted Socrates', the supposedly-spiritually wise search, for even more wisdom, will always go on:

The NewAgers will always be changing their manufactured NewAge names!
They will always be searching for their manufactured NewAge gurus!
They will always be following their manufactured NewAge dreams!
And they will always be the heroes of their own self-created, but also totally manufactured, NewAge nightmares!
No matter who they hurt!
They'll always have to!
It's how they feel good - about their their totally-manufactured NewAge selves!

Same as it ever was!
Same as it ever was!
Same as it ever was!

They will always know better - because one small hitch is (always) conveniently being overlooked:

"Socrates was wise because he knew he was ignorant. Everyone else was simply ignorant."
And that's your "spiritual" sermon for today, Stupid. From 11 to 12 and beyond. Amen.
