Geez - A feminized, NewAge, society is producing severe anomie - and, somehow, thinks it's the guys who have a problem:

He has no friends, no money to buy other consumables, little education, no partner, no job. Some days he doesn’t leave his bed. The choice for him is to eat this food or experience no pleasure."

They're also into "choice" but get confused when it's anyone else's.

I've got some experience with this:

After my wife and a NewAge quack killed her mother, had an affair, and then killed two others, every NewAger told me - like the Nazi killers into yoga during WWII - I should "move on" to be "happy" (because, obviously, an investigation - and a chance at  justice - is, still, inadequate for the job in their new "non-judgemental" society,...). 

I highly suggest NewAgers write that on this young man's prescription so he can partake, of what's on offer, to make him feel "whole" again (or is it "hole"?) according to feminism.

It's the only NewAge answer for everything they've done.

A Post On The Other "Love Handles" Nobody Asked For

It's amazing how the truth comes out in dribs and drabs, usually as only part of another story, like this bit in a story about the world's oldest American - a coffee drinking black woman:

"According to experts, people who [live] into their second century do so because they are blessed with good genetics, rather than because of an exercise or diet regime."

I made this point in a post about Glenn Reynolds' obsession with anti-aging bullshit - he credited Jack Jack LaLanne's longevity to exercise, rather than understanding that people like Jack LaLanne have good genetics. Scam artists use this misunderstanding to their advantage, finding people with good genetics to be in those "before" and "after" photos advertising weight loss regimes. (Of course, I've also made the point Glenn Reynolds doesn't understand quackery.) 

What bothers me most is that people don't recognize the obesity epidemic is, partially, due to bombarding people with moral judgements and this very kind of exercise and diet misinformation. In other words, the people trying to help are the problem, because - just as false hope is ultimately more devastating than none - the consequences of bad information are worse than no help at all: 

 The good intentions - of stupid people - are what's killing us,...

 

I'm So Phat (And The Evidence Against Me Is So Thin,...)

Ha! Ann Althouse has discovered the NewAger's "lowly disgust for citizens with obesity and an irrational fear that the overweight are intruding on the rest of us and draining us of our wealth" - a subject I've covered for years.

Ann HATES when I point out my "firsts" - and, more importantly, the fact she didn't climb onboard when I said them merely because (shockingly) they made good sense.

I always wonder why she doesn't see these things when I say them - it's ALWAYS got to be her or some "authority." (Do I challenge her on the constitution?) I mean, as long as I've hung out on her blog, I've told her she's trapped in a NewAge Nazi cult, so why is she surprised, now, that believers would find "the Auschwitz look" appealing? (There was lots of Nazi/prisoner sex going on in those camps,...)

Today, if you look like you have even a smidgen of "meat on your bones" you're labeled obese by the cultists. I've also pointed out on Ann's blog how NewAgers love to blame the victim  - but people go for it, forming lovable mobs of "nice" torturers chanting the silly Hitler Youth slogan "Mind/Body/Spirit" at whoever doesn't go along.

Oh yeah - about that "irrational fear" Ann wrote about? I wonder if Meade will ever reverse his opinion on who's suffering from it, now that his lady's noticed it ain't the likes of me?

The Only Thing Fat (And Dying) Is Your Head

"Wall-E is an innovative and visually stunning film, but the "satire" it draws is simple-minded. It plays off the easy analogy between obesity and ecological catastrophe, pushing the notion that Western culture has sickened both our bodies and our planet with the same disease of affluence. According to this lazy logic, a fat body stands in for a distended culture: We gain weight and the Earth suffers. If only society could get off its big, fat ass and go on a diet!

But the metaphor only works if you believe familiar myths about the overweight: They're weak-willed, indolent, and stupid. Sure enough, that's how Pixar depicts the future of humanity. The people in Wall-E drink 'cupcakes-in-a-cup,' they never exercise, and if they happen to fall off their hovering chairs, they thrash around like babies until a robot helps them up. They watch TV all day long and can barely read.

It ought to go without saying that this stereotype of the 'obese lifestyle' is simply false. How fat you are has a lot more to do with your genes than with your behavior. As much as 80 percent of the variation in human body weight can be explained by differences in our DNA. (Your height is similarly heritable.) That is to say, it may not matter that much whether you eat salads or drink 'cupcakes-in-a-cup,' whether you bike everywhere or fly around in a Barcalounger. If you have a propensity to become obese, there's only so much that can be done about it.

The desire to link obesity and environmental collapse seems to have more to do with politics than science."
