It's Been Almost 50 Years Since Selma (We Still Here)

Thousands of activists walked across the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge Sunday afternoon to retrace the steps of peaceful protesters who were beaten, gassed and run over by horses by Alabama authorities in 1965.

The annual commemoration drew what could have been the largest attendance since the event began two decades ago. Local law enforcement officials are already planning for the 50th anniversary next March — something expected to be much larger.

The city of Birmingham, Alabama, has been buzzing in recent weeks over the second arrest of the city's most well-known youth evangelist. Matt Pitt, founder of The Basement, first ran afoul of the law in the early 2012 when he was arrested for impersonating a police officer while flashing blue lights at cars on the interstate. Pitt pled guilty and continued to lead his large ministry, which had as many as 7,000 in attendance at monthly gatherings, until a warrant was issued for his arrest two weeks ago. He was arrested again last week and now sits in jail for violating his probation. Why was he booked this time? He impersonated a police officer a second time, though in this case he flashed his honorary sheriff's badge at a concerned resident while telling him that he was police officer.

It would be helpful if seekers thought, "I don't need this shit," when they first ran into the head cases, too,...

You Know How You Do Things Alone? (Being Left Alone)

I'm only posting this because I've been thinking of MLK's "Letter From A Birmingham Jail" a lot, recently, because it's the ultimate evidence behind two facts: 

1) The American Civil Rights Movement was a wholly-owned black phenomena. It was started by blacks, sustained by blacks, and finished by blacks with, eventually, the rest of America. The hippies jumped on a train that was already moving and called it theirs. That lie set the stage for the current bullshit I'm hearing.

 2) MLK was writing from jail, wrongly-arrested, and under death threats that repeatedly found their mark in the movement - eventually claiming MLK himself. Any comparison to the disgruntled "gay" marriage phenomena is laughable. Tell me: 

 What part of The American Civil Rights Movement had commentators discussing how fast things turned around, as they're now celebrating for gays? 

Hell, when it comes to blacks, they can't even say for sure if the job's done and I'm supposed to move on to someone else's concerns over my own?

Where are gays when it comes to insuring black success in this country?

Anybody seen the PRIDE parade front-and-center for direct action on that subject?

Has the gay community done anything about San Francisco's rarely-mentioned black ghetto, BayView-Hunter's Point?

Gays aren't even fair to gay blacks in San Francisco's Castro District, so who are they trying to fool?
