What Do You Want To Be (When You Grow Up?)

You know, I could easily take James Carville's 1992 admonition, "It's the economy, Stupid!" and just-as-easily reframe it, today, as a plea for understanding - to our gasping means of support:

"It's the stupid, Economy!"

(You know, like on South Park, adding a "Please, forgive us!" or something for good measure,…)

Don't get on my case about it, because I'm not the only one who's noticed it.

The fact is we've become a dumb people. Not as dumb as some others, but still, pretty dumb for Americans.

If you're looking for an answer to why we're so messed up these days, you might want to consider that any nation, once drilled and encouraged to "think outside the box," has already conceded it's incapable of doing so within the one it's built.

And thus, we have bestowed upon ourselves A NewAge Nation, flailing wildly to be "happy" without appreciating what that is or how it's truly attained.

We've thrown our money down a hole.

Through our incessant use of faux-spirituality, positive visualization, seminars, Self-help books, motivational speakers, and whatnot, the West has been lifted up through NewAge's "magical window," only to find itself being set right back down into an isolated cul de sac.

Where a(nother) gang is impatiently waiting.

And they mean "business"...

And The Democrats Were Going To Rule For 40 Years, Blah, Blah, Don't Call Us, We'll Call You

Some people don't know when to stop:
Democratic political strategist James Carville has made his 2012 prediction: Mitt Romney will be the GOP nominee.
Because, as we all know, there's something about the sound of "RomneyCare" that Republicans find inspiring,...

The Democratic Party: A Cult Of Liars, Idiots, Hypocrites, And (Of Course) Their "Followers"

Here’s James Carville on CNN’s The Situation Room, 2/25/2009:

BLITZER: We should know, James, sooner rather than later, if all this money being spent will work or not work, because the folks’ bottom lines, their pocketbooks, will be directly affected.

CARVILLE: Well, I don’t know about soon. It will take a while for it to work. As I point out, the most influential Republican in the United States today, Mr. Rush Limbaugh, said he did not want President Obama to succeed. So at the very top of the Republican Party, he’s not being wished well here.

Here’s Carville on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001:

Just minutes before learning of the terrorist attacks on America, Democratic strategist James Carville was hoping for President Bush to fail, telling a group of Washington reporters: “I certainly hope he doesn’t succeed.”

Carville was joined by Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg [seen above with Carville] who seemed encouraged by a survey he had just completed that revealed public misgivings about the newly minted president.

“We rush into these focus groups with these doubts that people have about him, and I’m wanting them to turn against him,” Greenberg admitted.

The pollster added with a chuckle of disbelief: “They don’t want him to fail. I mean, they think it matters if the president of the United States fails.”

How silly!

The One Show

"Obama is real, not fictional, and any effort to mimic or mime him, or even to offer a fictionalized representation of him in the form of a black president comparable to him, might seem disrespectful to those in Hollywood who are ready to serve him, bathe him, and anoint him with oil. He is, after all, The One, as Oprah Winfrey, perhaps the most powerful person in show business, declared him.

Among presidents in the past century, only one other--John F. Kennedy--has received such unambiguously worshipful treatment from Hollywood--and that was only after he was dead. Bill Clinton might have gotten such treatment, but as his administration began in 1993, a delegation of Hollywood potentates visited James Carville in the White House to give him their advice and counsel on what their beloved new president must do.

Their high-handed and astoundingly naïve and foolish advice on health care so enraged Carville that he began to scream at them. Carville told Maureen Dowd that "they started telling me how many degrees they had. Somebody blurted out, 'I have a Ph.D. in communications from U.C.L.A.' Well, wowee-kazowee!" This led the writer-producer Gary David Goldberg to liken his populist interlocutor to 'Anthony Perkins playing Fidel Castro on acid.'

Clinton's relationship with Hollywood never quite recovered from that: The injured sense among the assembled that the new young president they so wanted to love would allow them to be abused by this .  .  . Louisianan .  .  . led directly to the ambiguous portrait of Clinton offered in the film
The American President and the television show The West Wing.

In the former, Clinton is a popular chief executive who is afraid to do what is right (meaning what is left) until he falls in love with an environmentalist who sets him straight. And in
The West Wing, Aaron Sorkin took the sloppy but politically prudent Clinton, put him in a washing machine, pulled him out, and ironed him flat into the flawless and always principled Jed Bartlet.

Even if Barack Obama proves to be a disappointment to Hollywood, it simply will not have the vocabulary to translate him into something more along the lines of what they would prefer, as they did with Clinton. Expressing dissatisfaction with a black leader? That would be a betrayal of hope, of change."

A Typical Politician Running A Cynical Campaign

"Whether Barack Obama wins or loses the White House, his candidacy will have failed to perform the miracle of transcendence it was supposedly going to deliver...

...The Democrats' perversion of the race issue has gotten so brazen that someone who merely points out the undeniably true -- like Mr. Obama's controversial ties to radicals or felons of any race or nationality -- is accused of racism. Left-wing politicos have opined that racism motivates even Democratic voters who don't support Mr. Obama (as if ideas don't matter), while James Carville, the Dems' talking head from the House of Slytherin, fears rioting if Mr. Obama loses."

Ruth Ann Dailey, putting the first check in Obama's "loss" column, for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

You know, this should make you wonder: is Chicago so much better because Barack Obama served there for 8 years? Is racism gone? Did the rest of the country miraculously fall in love with Chicago (as so many suggest the world will love us if Barack Obama's president)? Or is Chicago exactly what we've been hearing: a place of corruption, criminality, racism - and race-baiting - and a much-too-comfortable home for terrorists and other assorted America haters?

It's worth thinking about. Seriously, if Barack Obama was such a great pol, we'd have some clear evidence to point to, wouldn't we? But that evidence doesn't exist. (We Republicans have got years and years of John McCain's cost-cutting, anti-pork, and anti-corruption legislation to point to). All Obama's got is souring, empty, speeches - and a lot of clunky, evasive, talk.

Where I come from, we call that "selling wolf tickets", folks.

The Dems Are Defining Themselves

I was just watching T.V. and heard Bill Clinton's snake head, James Carville, damn John McCain's V.P. pick, Sarah Palin, as a creationist. Well, that's a subject I care a lot about, so I looked up her statements and also found this:

“To quote just the first part of her statements on creationism and ignore the second is misleading; because in the clarification she’s describing a position that doesn’t cause me (a staunch anti-creationist) any discomfort.”

-- Charles Johnson, who's been on this beat a long time, describing what would be dishonest political tactics, on Little Green Footballs

Now, look at what Google shows is already happening across the board - online and on T.V. - and decide for yourself if the Democrats aren't shading the facts. Playing "the politics of fear"? Willing to attack a woman - and a mother - "making history"? Is this "Change"?

Sure looks like it to me.

Those Who Forget The Past,...

"If we can’t win this damn election, with a Democratic party more unified than ever before, with us having raised as much money as the Republicans, with 55 percent of the country believing [the U.S. is] heading in the wrong direction,...and with our side being more passionate about the outcome than theirs—if we can’t win this one, then we can’t win [anything]!"

-- James Carville, Democratic strategist, two weeks before President Bush won re-election

Journalists: Caught With Their Pants Down

"MONICAGATE: THE COMMUNITY RUPTURES: It is hard to recapture the shock in America when this totally unprecedented news broke. A married president while in office had an affair with a 22-year-old intern under his charge. In less than ten years, we had gone from a president who would not take his jacket off in the Oval Office to one who could not keep his zipper up.

Unlike Watergate, journalists failed to do something that may now prove fatal to the Old Media. They never clearly condemned the president’s sexual relations as “wrong.” Nor that Clinton lied to them about it. Nor the credible allegations made by Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita Broaddrick that Clinton may have engaged in violations ranging from sexual harassment to rape. These were reported as if they were just political squabbles, typically with one side saying it was just about sex and the other side dismissed as “Clinton-haters” by James Carville and a “war room” that the media seemed to respect, if not celebrate.

The significant number of Americans to whom it was self-evident that Clinton’s behavior was a previously unthinkable outrage promptly revoked their membership in an Old Media that clearly did not share their values. According to the Pew Research Center, those who believed news organizations were “immoral” tripled from 13% to 38% — a level it has maintained since, dipping momentarily only in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 when the media did share the values of a united America.

Now that news is converging onto the internet, which will provide a multitude of “news associations,” the Old Media outlets will likely never be able to reunite us in a single news community with shared values. Certainly, not those Americans who are convinced they sold their soul to a devil with a blue dress on."
