And Scooter Libby Outed Valerie Plame, And,...

"A lot of people claimed that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were lying. But none of their claims were ever disproved, and T. Boone Pickens still has his million bucks."

-- The Editors of the Wall Street Journal, once again proving the NewAge Left lives on a steady diet of lies and delusions.

The Chronicles Of Narcissism

"Charles attracts women by displaying a certain vulnerability - something of a little boy lost. It's real, not phoney. But he gets bored with a woman the moment he realises he has total control over her. It is not a pretty characteristic, but there it is. I'm sure it goes back to his childhood when his mother ran off with another man. He loves the chase of women, and seducing them, but he can be ruthless with them."

-- One of the "oldest friends" of Charles Spencer, the twice-divorced brother of Princess Diana, who gave us that ugly NewAge act of being so torn up over NewAge Diana's treatment by NewAge Prince Charles, in the Daily Mail

"I doubt if Charles will ever fall completely in love with any girl. The only person he really loves is himself."

Real Chinese Medicine (Yuja Wang)

Oh Snap: There's A White Guy In My Mirror!!!

"There's a strange cloud that's settled over our modern society. It's a pervasive sort of bland contempt for an ingenious collection of lenses and mirrors that can reveal a giant ball of hydrogen, helium, methane and ammonia, billions of miles away, surrounded by untold millions of ice fragments in delicate orbit, yet one which will ascribe to the most banal unknown, a life-changing, quit-your-insurance-job-and-live-in-a-tree status.

For our entire history, right up until a hundred years ago, the idea of flying carpets and magic lanterns held people's imaginations in thrall. Now that we have everyday miracles like jet aircraft and electric lights, all some people want is to return to a time when the belief in magic was common, but the everyday blessings of magic - telephones, computers, antibiotics - didn't exist. Back in the anti-nuclear 80's lots of folks drove around with SPLIT WOOD NOT ATOMS bumper stickers, and I often asked myself, how much wood have these people actually split? I've done an hour in my 20's and I thought I was going to die.

It's sad, frankly - at least to people like me. I find it terribly, tragically sad that the more successful and comfortable we become, the more people pine for a time when none of these everyday miracles existed. Outdoor bathrooms on January nights and miserable coal stoves that need to be tended hourly just to heat a pathetic half-gallon of tepid water need to be experienced to be believed - and not just in a 24 hour adventure, but continuously. Death, hunger, cold, disease, infant mortality - we have fought them tooth and nail for millennia, for what? Apparently in order to so insulate people that they can long for "ancient wisdom," return to the "holistic tribal remedies" of the past, and hold up the most primitive and achingly poor cultures on earth as being the sole repository of "authenticity," while scorning every advance that they take completely for granted.

Magical thinking is everywhere today, and it is growing. It threatens the foundations of reason, individualism, science and objectivity that have delivered this success so well and for so long. It is dangerous. If we are to continue to thrive and progress, then we need to sharpen some sticks and drive a stake through the heart of this monster, and right quick.

I'll use the term "Magical Thinking" as a pretty big umbrella to cover a whole host of creeping intellectual chicanery: superstition, wishful thinking, pseudoscience, unsubstantiated claims, assertion, mysticism and anti-science.

Like so many of our other destructive tendencies, this whole mess really started in the latter part of the 1960's."

No Contest

Courtesy of a commenter on [Michelle] Malkin's blog:

“We in Germany cannot figure out why you are even bothering to hold an election.

On one side, you have a bitch (Hillary) who is a lawyer, married to a lawyer.

Alternatively, you have a lawyer (Obama) who is married to a bitch, who is also a lawyer.

On the other side, you have a war hero (McCain) who is married to a good looking woman, who owns a beer company.

Where is the contest here?”

We Need More Johnny Carsons (Many More)

This was the moment that lives in every skeptics heart: the night Johnny Carson got James Randi to help him bust Uri Gellar. Where are the Johnny Carsons of today?

Oprah, Montel, and Larry King, actually give forums to these assholes so they can be allowed to swindle the public into believing their bullshit. But debunking their nonsense is what journalists should be doing, daily; then they wouldn't have to be so worried about falling newspaper sales and television ratings - because they'd actually gain our respect and admiration for doing their fucking jobs. The problem hasn't been the public's "changing habits" but theirs.

Seeing this clip again made me sad, and pissed, because I'm old enough to remember when events like this were the standard of journalism. Now all we get is NewAge bullshit by the pound - and we should be profoundly ashamed - because, under the influence of these NewAge charlatans, it's been the quality, and texture, of our very lives - the actual feeling of being alive - that has been allowed to be so greatly diminished right before our eyes.

I think it's time to bring this whole ugly, ugly, chapter to a close, don't you? Watch the clip: these people can't stand up to anything close to a real examination. Let's make that our entertainment now. Let's laugh at them, to their faces, as they've laughed at you behind your back. Let's put our "thinking caps" back on - remember those?

I'm sure they're around here somewhere,...

Jesus Is Still Working His Magic

"AUSTELL, Ga. -- A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he hopped a pair of fences and entered a restricted area Saturday at Six Flags Over Georgia, authorities said.

The teen and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, S.C., police said."

Hunter S. Thompson Would Kill Himself Again

"In his long-running fever dream about America and its abundant pathologies, the bald man, with the tumbler of whiskey and head full of Schedule 1 narcotics, captured not only a mood — your government is not your friend — but many realities of civic life, most notably that if candidates were willing to do what it takes to get elected, they would probably arrive in office corrupted beyond hope."

-- David Carr, in a review of the new documentary, "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson," in the New York Times

Shit, I've Re-Named My Middle Finger "Hussein"

"Mr. Obama is a Christian, not a Muslim. Hussein is a family name inherited from a Kenyan father he barely knew, who was born a Muslim and died an atheist."
-- Jodi Kantor, in an article about all the kids (like those above) who have informally taken Barack Obama's middle name - "Hussein" - as their own, in the New York Times

Several comments come to mind:

1) Since these kids are only informally taking his name, why is this news? The New York Times is, obviously, just as superficial - and stupid - as they are. (Look at those smug faces. Oh, you kids are such rebels! Most black kids would kick your ass for that look - alone - and the guy in the pink shirt would really get it: Pow! - right in the kisser.) On the other hand, the NYT could just be into the whole "Cult of Obama" thing,...

2) Spiritually-speaking, Barack's dad was smarter than he is.

3) I love how, for decades, Democrats have railed against Christianity (and religion in general in this country) but are now lining up behind this Jeremiah Wright-trained believer. (You guys must be really desperate. Not that you had any core values to begin with, I know, so it's not like this latest bout of hypocrisy is betraying anything.)

4) The Louis Farrakhan thing? What Louis Farrakhan thing? Sure, these kids - and their parents - will do great with people like him closer to power,...

5) And, Hey kids, if you really want to be like your leader, try to talk for the next two years without saying anything - that's what I would find impressive!

I Told You And Told You And Told You

"...Nobody joins a cult. You join a self-help group, a religious movement, a political organization.

They change so gradually, by the time you realize you're entrapped - and almost everybody does - you can't figure a safe way back out...."

- Deborah Layton, survivor of Jim Jones' People's Temple cult

Today’s candidates are running enthusiastically for national preacher—and much else besides.

In the revival tent atmosphere of Barack Obama’s campaign, the preferred hosanna of hope is “Yes we can!” We can, the Democratic front-runner promises, not only create “a new kind of politics” but “transform this country,” “change the world,” and even “create a Kingdom right here on earth.” With the presidency, all things are possible.

In The Road to Serfdom, economist and political philosopher F.A. Hayek chastised the “socialists of all parties” for their belief that “it is not the system we need fear, but the danger it might be run by bad men.” Today’s “presidentialists of all parties”—a phrase that describes the overwhelming majority of American voters—suffer from a similar delusion. Our system, with its unhealthy, unconstitutional concentration of power, feeds on the atavistic tendency to see the chief magistrate as our national father or mother, responsible for our economic well-being, our physical safety, and even our sense of belonging. Relimiting the presidency depends on freeing ourselves from a mind-set one century in the making. One hopes that it won’t take another Watergate and Vietnam for us to break loose from the spellbinding cult of the presidency.

-- Gene Healy, author, from his essay "The Cult of the Presidency" on Reason Online

All these photos (and the video below) were taken from a kinda-scary blog, called "Is Barack Obama The Messiah?", which has to seen to be believed: it documents all the people who are regarding Barack as Jesus or some shit.

It's truly amazing that no one - especially Barack Obama himself - is making an effort to stop this fanaticism. It doesn't speak well of him, journalism, our educational system, or the country, that it's gone on this long - or that it's happening at all: I mean, after almost two years of speeches, the man still hasn't even defined what he stands for yet. That's not politics:

It's cultism. Pure and simple.

Tricia Walsh-Smith: NewAger To The Core

I told you I was going to follow the case of Tricia Walsh-Smith, the YouTube Divorce Lady who portrayed herself as a peace-loving innocent betrayed - here's an update on all we've learned since then:

She uses Tarot cards to determine her fate and those of others - and to get revenge.

She consults psychics for the same purpose.

She's written a play called "Bonkers" and has sang that that's what she is - but, as far as we know, that knowledge hasn't driven her to seek help from anyone but those psychics.

She threatened to tattle to the gossip columnists if her husband didn't bankroll the play she was producing.

She's denigrated her husband's sexual prowess.

She threatened to eat her husband's manhood for breakfast.

She said "If I [made the threat] I was channeling something," which makes her a channeler as well.

She's an actress who's been over-emoting on the stand, to the point where the judge has asked her to stop, prompting her husband's lawyer to question her acting abilities.

She's clearly used sex to get ahead.

She considers herself a feminist.

She's stereotypically railed against "male chauvinist pigs."

She's called for "woman warriors" to rally behind her (which, dutifully, they have.)

Believe me: TMR would regard Tricia Walsh-Smith as "one twisted lady" if she wasn't so fucking common. Or if other women would try to stop her behavior and thinking (which very few do, ruthlessly accepting whatever benefits may possibly arise from acting crazy.) So, since women don't, they have no one else to blame - especially not men - that the Tricia Walsh-Smith's of the world are seen as par for the course. She's feminism's latest NewAge poster child because so few other women do anything to prove otherwise. They don't speak up. Women rally to her side when she's clearly "Bonkers" and needs a firm talking to. They even hope she "wins."

Blame only yourselves, Ladies, if you're taken wrong: you suck.

Hey Barack: Your Cult Is Dumb As A Rock

"Please, Alex's mom, don't homeschool your child. Your social studies lessons might leave something to be desired."

-- Libby Sternberg, commenting on the exceedingly stupid Barack Obama ad (above) that's been making the rounds, for The Daily Standard

Two immediate rebuttals come to mind:

1) Our military is voluntary.

2) McCain will only be president for (up to) 8 years, so her kid is in danger until he's (at most) 10 years old - clearly making him recruiter material.

And, then, there's this:

How NewAgers think the American people will elect anyone stupid enough to release such a dumb (and easily-parodied) ad is beyond me: it's just more proof (if it was needed) that meditation is truly bad for brain function, because, since Iowa, somebody in the Obama camp has lost the ability to reason.
