Ann Althouse: Race-Baiting For Her Racist Readership (As Easily As Don Lemon Is Making CNN's Lemonade)

She redefines "smug" AND America's history of racial justice

Getting race wrong (has she ever gotten it right?) is, now, such a daily operation for Ann Althouse, I can fully see what worth the University of Madison finds in her (employing a law professor who can't grasp what few options blacks have is "win-win") when - decades after MLK - we still live in a nation with unjust laws:

“This message — incarceration as racial oppression — has been cultivated by some who are dedicated to issues of racial justice. Those who are reacting to Ferguson by engaging in criminal violence are stepping on that message.”

He redefines "smug" AND America's history of racial justice, too

But then, it's her example that also makes it possible for me to see what worth CNN finds in employing Donald Dilworth Lemon (a reporter who also can't grasp what few options blacks have) when - decades after MLK - we still live in a nation with unjust laws:

To accuse Jackson of continuing MLK's "race hustle" - without mentioning whites illegally jailed and harassed MLK - works just as Ann's ignorant posts do

"Reverend, part of your legacy is that you marched with Dr. King peacefully, non-violent protests," he said. "What has changed in our culture and our society that people result -- resort to things that played out here last night in Ferguson?"

"You do know that when Dr. King was alive we had the Watts riots and the Newark riots and the Detroit riots and Chicago," Jackson responded, adding that "police action triggered those riots."

"Blacks are ten times more likely to be arrested. That matters.”

Whites said blacks should emulate "America's Dad" - blacks smelt a rat and said "no"

You see - considering America IS a racist place with unjust laws - the worth of these two's "respectable" racial cluelessness is obvious:

"Waiting for whites to grow up" is a better name for this place than the United States

They (and Cosby) can buy time for whites - to "make progress" - which means, of course, black lives can further rot,...until whites learn to process more complex ideas about blacks than currently possible.

Whites will keep saying their racism ended, whenever they say it did, in the meantime

Oh well:

At least we blacks can be "happy" because - between these two multi-racial mental giants - we're now part of our nation's racist's education.

TMR's Year In Review: The "Race" To The Bottom Began

I could belabor the point, as I have for the last few months, but shamefully to me - especially as a black Republican - 2013 was the year the Right lost on the subject of race. Barack Obama may have been the target, but a dehumanized Trayvon Martin caught the bullet, and the Tea Party's whooping and hollering was enough to make almost any black person (or person of conscience) recoil in disgust.

That was it - the Tea Party was done. Unwilling to silence our worst actors, there wasn't a single thing the Right could say to advance our arguments on any subject, much less race. And you want to know what the further tragedy was?

The Right started the year with the upper hand.

The media had blown their Trayvon/Zimmerman reporting, in such an obvious way, it would've been easy to swing blacks around for the Left's crime of wildly exploiting the case - all it took was a little compassion.

But no. The Right, being insecure about any effect the Left's media manipulations have, decided not to speak truth to power - but to go after the low-hanging fruit of an, obviously grieving, black community. Blacks weren't being media savvy enough. And one group's wrong was just as politically opportune as anybody else's (AKA the liberal media's) right?

Conservatives couldn't have been more wrong - I'm talking Westboro Baptist Church wrong - and the Right either (take your pick) couldn't see it, couldn't admit it, or - the worst of the worst during, what was obviously, a mourning period for blacks - just didn't give a damn. I've told you:

Appearances are just one of the problems with groupthink.

It appears the Right has been in full-on "Race Hustler" mode for too long. By attacking Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton in this way, they'd gotten so used to it, they thought it would work in any situation - even the unnecessary death of a teenager.

That led to such unfortunate comparisons as The Black Panthers - who fought racists - being compared as equal in evil as the Ku Klux Klan, who perpetuated it. It simply won't wash historically, but then, whites also denying the context of our lives became a HUGE problem.

One that, luckily enough, the movie 12 Years a Slave seems to have remedied somewhat.

Yes, attacking the media, exclusively, would've won the day - and probably turned many of the issues requiring a vote or consensus to conservative's advantage. Impossible once the racial tit-for-tat started:

You Ever Skipped A Rock & Hit A Flying Bird? Oh Man, There's Ripples Everywhere - And You're Eating Tonight!

Right Wing News' John Hawkins posts a lot of good, thought-provoking stuff, and he's got another one ready for us today:

  "If Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and let’s face it, pretty much everyone on MSNBC weren’t around, would Lakim Faust have been murdering white people? Maybe it’s time to start asking that question."

Maybe it is - there's a lot of Americans dying but, in my experience, that didn't seem to be *too much* of a problem until whites were targets of blacks. So, the first question most blacks would think "it’s time to start asking" wouldn't be on coverage of the issue, finally, but why hasn't more of it been everywhere? 

I'd bet you that one, long-enduring fact of American life, is enough to enrage a whole lot of Americans and - except when exploited as a ploy to "tweak" the Left -  even Right Wing News, sad to say, may be partially responsible for that. 

But honestly, between post-racial Republicans, our questions don't always have to be confrontations about race, do they? How about some answers? 

Like, speaking of our buddies at MSNBC, when they're asked a question like ""Is there science to back up the effectiveness of alternative treatments?" do you think the following is the proper answer?

"If you’re looking for the same kind of rigorous, double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies that set the gold standard in Western medicine, they might be harder to find when it comes to alternative treatments. 

"Many of these modalities are more personalized, less standardized, and so are harder to study in that way," she says. In spite of these differences, in recent years an increasing number of studies has provided verification of the effectiveness of alternative therapies — most notably, meditation, acupuncture and herbal remedies."

That probably IS the answer if you're a listener to the homeopath, Michael Savage, or the advocate, Rush Limbaugh, but what does the most knowledgable scientist in alternative medicine say? Along with "much of alternative medicine resembles a cult," Prof. Edzard Ernst finds science "might be harder to find" as well, but he's a little bit more conclusive:

"I have seen far too many of those bogus studies to have much patience left. They do not represent an honest test of anything, simply because we know their result even before the trial has started. They are not science but thinly disguised promotion. They are not just a waste of money, they are dangerous – because they produce misleading results – and they are thus also unethical."

If this is the truth, and you, John Hawkins, have a sincere interest in fixing the woes of this nation beyond pointing out what horrible people some blacks are - and I, just as sincerely, think you do - then I challenge you to become EVEN MORE INTERESTED in eliminating the cult-like influence of this equally "dangerous" and "unethical" scourge from the face of our nation. 

Why? Because, just like the equally superficial concept of race, the quackery inherent in "alternative" medicine has been the motivation and instigation for murder and countless other crimes world-wide - most notably fraud - while being promoted by Left and Right Wing thought leaders alike. And, strategically speaking, since the vast majority of political promoters are on the Left, we'd be undermining a major source of strength to the Democrats - both financially and "spiritually" - while dispelling myths that have wedded American society to Europe's Dark Ages for centuries. 

And that brings me back to America's racial problems:

Confirming certainties dispels uncertainties.

Like whether A) as Rudy Giuliani's "Broken windows theory" suggested, the low-hanging fruit of science and politics have larger implications culturally, and B) there's a possibility the American Right Wing will ever join the 21st Century:

If 1 Thing Leads To Another I Expect To Get Somewhere

The Daily Mail asks a question I've considered, more often than I'd like, when meeting others:

"Why ARE so many people being labelled bipolar? More and more celebrities say they have it, but here a top psychiatrist warns the disorder is far too readily diagnosed, leaving many trapped on 'zombie' pills"

No matter what the illness, misdiagnosis is always a medical hazard, and - without the proper amount of time for observation - bipolar disorder's a toughie. 

Especially because, after the disappearance of asylums, society's being conditioned to tolerate madness, partially through hiding it's public treatment behind validating medicalized language. 

Allowed to convince us of their "point of view" - without most sufferer's realizing, possibly, how skewed it is (and definitely without anyone else being so "offensive" as to admit it) or what a burden accommodation places on us all - the functionally insane become trickier to identify.

People now ask "What's normal?" far more than trying to see who's crazy enough to do some damage somehow.

"I don't know how I missed so many signs."

That was Jesse Jackson on the day his "bipolar" son went to prison last August. 

Incarcerated (with his wife) for corruption, Jackson, Jr. clearly had more energy than good sense, eventually spending $750,000 of the taxpayer's money on what essentially were impulse items - typical behavior for someone with bipolar. 

TMR outted Jr. as a crystal-gazing NewAger in 2010, an endeavor I - almost alone - have long associated with possible mental illness and further trouble down the line.

But then, to me, this all seems pretty obvious to begin with,....
