Reparations Ain't The Only Thing Said To Never Happen

I'm getting a special thrill these days, from conservatives, saying blacks should be "grateful" to be here: 

"No matter how much a black family tried to emulate the values and virtues of the middle class, that family was still likely to be punished, humiliated and to falter. Against that history, the claim of conservatives like Charles Murray that the crisis of black poverty can be explained as the moral failing of individuals is the worst kind of smugness."

Has anyone ever done a study, on the level of harm  misinformation might inflict, on the lives of black folks? Since whites are the majority, what happens when another racist meme - like blacks having "bad culture" - smears us? Is it amplified in proportion to white's numbers? FOX News'? 

And what physical effects, if any, manifest? Does violence go up? Domestic violence? Interracial attacks? Police? How long does history say it *usually* takes for white people, to come to their senses, after they've truly lost it?

Wait - stupid question - let's just move on,…

 

The G.O.P.'s Black Charlie Crist (Ass Out In The Cold)

Real Talk

After reading an Atlantic piece, on the the exodus of Charlie Crist from the Republican Party, I can see - in many ways - I'm actually part of a trend, rather than just idiosyncratically outraged at it's revealed racism when stressed. The Tea Party broke what - at one time -  "looked" respectable (They should thank their lucky stars for George Bush's personal decency) but now the G.O.P.'s nowhere multicultural America should want to be. 

I, too, am going Democrat, leaving strict conservatives with their reconstituted John Birch Society.

Real Love

Needless to say, my interests have changed, focusing mainly - not on the interests of black folks (if I did that, not only would there be more gospel, but a lot more Jesus) - but on disrupting Lee Atwater's deeply troubling, white supremacist, in-group/out-group cultism over us "lazy" black criminals "playing the victim" while "we don't see race" and no - though no one asked - you can't make me feel guilty! If even one white person reads this blog and discovers anything that either puts a dent in that line of "reasoning" or, at the very least, adds to it in some substantive way that makes the black experience more real (Slavery & Jim Crow, etc. = a good chance for poverty and crime? Even today? Hmmm) then my efforts and travails will have been worth it. 

Because, like Charlie Crist apparently, I give a damn. Not in the "sunny" way he does, but in the way that says, "Crack, you better put on another layer of rhino hide - and fight, fight, fight through the despair - because Martin Luther King wouldn't give a damn if Rand Paul's out there, or Glenn Reynolds is telling you seaweed is going to get us to the moon, even those crazy sombitches won't be left behind."

Real Bad

Real race shit is uncomfortable. This blog is uncomfortable. I know that. Which is why, I think, the internet is perfect for displaying the art of our age and dealing with it. The privacy, just for starters. No one wants to be openly accused or associated with the doofus' above, but the current conservative line can't be detached from it. It's the Southern Strategy. No racism, no hatred:

Real Good (Joke)

Just as the tide finally seems to be turning on NewAge practices, I predict white conservatives - not just evil KKK types - will eventually understand how they Fred Phelps-ed themselves during the Trayvon Martin trial, and want to find a new language, and attitude, about the darkening of America. This is serious business.

Real Confused

I can acknowledge Paul Ryan might be "trying". But, after mentioning Charles Murray, he's obviously talking to the wrooong people. If he can walk into a room full of credible black folks, and come out with that same cocky look he shows the world now, well then - brave man - he's onto something. I don't know if he's got it in him. We'll see.

The Real Deal

Finally, I'm trying to hold up a brave face in a dire situation, too - one that can lead to a very bad outcome. I'm talking death or prison. Whether you "get" what I'm doing or not, I'm a human being and need some help. 

Some people hear the heart that beats behind these words and pictures, some don't. As an artist, what I've hoped is that you're moved.

It's Time We Paid A Visit To The Elephant's Graveyard

Whoa. It's wild, the things racists don't tell you - and how there's just so much "stuff" we can fail to put it together. Like, I never knew these two guys broke the Koch Brothers story. Or that the Koch's father was a co-founder of the crazy John Birch Society. 

Getting really interesting, I also didn't know they exposed Glenn Reynolds' girl friend at The Atlantic, Megan McArdle, as having a conflict of interest - being married to a guy who did astroturf campaigns - and who worked for the Tea Party's backers, FreedomWorks. (Notice she doesn't mention that here?) 

I'd never heard the earliest Tea Party website was created BEFORE Rick Santelli did the famous rant that supposedly set the whole thing off. Or that the guy behind that website worked for Ron Paul. The same Ron Paul who, I do remember from 2009, had writings appearing in a white supremacist newsletter.

How'd anybody miss that?

Especially now that Rand Paul's mulling a run for the presidency? 

Post-Trayvon, I HAVE learned Wisconsin's Scott Walker has a staff that's racist, and the boss even once had nice things to say about David Duke. 

 While Paul Ryan could've been the Vice President quoting Charles Murray. Whoa. 

Like Martin Luther King's admonition to blacks not to work with Republicans  - while they scream MLK was one of them - it's wild the things racists don't tell you.

But I'm certainly getting an idea of where this is going now,….

 

Ron Christie Is An Uncle Tom & Paul Ryan's His Massa

Other than the fact they usually look like Clarence Thomas' big-headed love child, you know how blacks spot an Uncle Tom? Find the black guy who writes a column defending Paul Ryan's "lazy" blacks statement:

  "In Defense of Paul Ryan: He Isn’t Racist, He’s Right”

So what about Ron Christie screams "Uncle Tom"? I'll tell you:

Never once, in Christie's entire piece, does he mention Charles Murray - the acknowledged white supremacist whose ideas Paul Ryan said justified his claims. 

“We call it a poverty trap. There are incentives not to work, and to stay where you are. That’s this tailspin or spiral that we’re looking at in our communities. Your buddy Charles Murray or Bob Putnam over at Harvard, those guys have written books on this.”

So why would Christie leave Murray out? Because he's a Tom. Only a Tom suffers from the sort of cognitive dissonance that would allow him to "overlook" Ryan's mentioning of Murray. 

And only a Tom thinks blacks would be distracted enough, by Christie's black skin, to miss it - in order for his black ass to mount a sorry "defense" of Ryan nobody was asking for. Despite his "academic" appearance, Christie's not too bright.

On the other hand, I've seen what can happen to the Christies of the world - on the conservative plantation - if blacks don't play along,...
