It's Happened Too Many Times For Me To Get Happy

Measles are only a symptom of our problem, not the problem itself. The problem is our creation of a society where long-discredited NewAge beliefs can - literally - not only allow hold off the entirety of our medical profession, but (with hardly any criticism what-so-ever) elevate a dingbat like Jenny McCarthy to the position of a respected spokesperson on "The View" - a women's "information" program. They do this, even as they insist this is a meritocracy. 

Today I wander a city where I hear my friends openly speak of "karma" and "energy" and "spirituality" as though these things are real. They shop in the Whole Foods homeopathy section. They treat chiropractors as doctors, support "detox" centers, and think the Dr. Oz's of this nation dispense real medical information. And they're experts in ostracizing as loony anyone who says different. As a friend recently insisted before the measles story broke (when I criticized her promotion of the discredited NewAge belief system of astrology) what people - such as these scientists and I - need to do is "get off your high horse" and let them do their thing unimpeded, otherwise, we're assholes, oppressing them. Being correct is not only considered irrelevant but very, very wrong. And they have the total support of the world around them as they do so. I mean, if you think like this, I'll bet everything I have you're employed, liked, and maybe even respected. 

This is why I refer to my current existence in terms of living with Nazis. Like a Jew during WWII, being correct - or innocent of the charges against me - hasn't mattered, even when death is involved. There's a celebration of my downfall involved here, just as Germans laughed at the Jews being hauled away to the camps. I'm the problem, now, just as they were for the Germans, right? Nothing could be more obvious. That my wife killed three people, just as NewAgers have infected children, hasn't brought me much, unless you count friends cruelly forgetting who I am, and deciding to question my sanity instead. 

If not that, there's the expectation that I - alone - can fix what doctors and lawyers and other desperate people, caught in this jungle of misinformation, cannot. Or that I should just shut up, and go along, to make things easier on myself. 

Or that I should write. Nevermind that I've been writing about this for 10 long years. Or the obvious fact I'm not a writer. It's all on me. 

As Frank Zappa said, when your story is "Man Against Society," bet on society. 

I can never forget that, with the exception of token efforts, not a single "friend" I have has seriously offered to help. And why should they? They know they, then, will be ostracized, called crazy, or an asshole, and few of these NewAge women will like them - who wants that? 

They might as well join me in the "crazy" demand of reparations for crimes against blacks. That's the other issue those who have listened claim is "too big" for them to get involved in. 

As long as there's no upside they can see - because there's no right or wrong beliefs - there's nothing anyone will do or have to. Fuck justice. Fuck the kids. And fuck me. Like these kids with the measles, I can and will die while y'all congratulate yourselves on your having "made it," using the system of beliefs you hold to elevate yourselves professionally and make you feel good.

Racist white's oppressive focus on the blacks they've made poor - and not white's own racist behavior - began long before LBJ:

During the Reconstruction era some Black Americans believed that the solution to social uplift was not in social reform but in individual moral behavior. Behind the idea was the concept that discrimination and systematic oppression took place because Whites did not respect Blacks. However, the theory went that if Blacks changed their behavior, fashion, and even music, Whites would begin to respect them and therefore treat them as deserving of dignity. 

Politics of respectability was,...an ideology, targeted towards poor Blacks, urging them to get on board with behavior that Whites deemed respectable, as a necessary and sufficient condition of racial uplift,…The Chicago Defender posted weekly reminders targeting poor Black Chicago migrants, admonishing them against vulgar language and ragged clothes. Avoiding these things, the newspaper argues in a May 17, 1919 issue, "will disarm those who are endeavoring to discredit the race." 

Instead of moral excellence being a possibility for us all, politics of respectability places the burden of virtue on the oppressed and lets the oppressor off the hook. Instead of challenging the oppressor to be fair, loving, or unconditionally compassionate, they demand that the oppressed "pull up their pants," "don't wear hoodies," "remain chaste," and "don't be lazy" -- while simultaneously excusing the unethical acts of the oppressor towards them.

History has shown that 'acting better' does not bring about being 'treated better.' We must remember that four girls were in Sunday school when their Birmingham church was bombed. Amadou Diallo did not commit any crime, obeyed the police, but yet was shot 41 times by the police. We can count numerous times in which women were raped not because they wore short skirts or were intoxicated but simply because they were women. This is why in "A Case For Reparations", Ta-Nehisi Coates claims: 

The kind of trenchant racism to which black people have persistently been subjected can never be defeated by making its victims more respectable. The essence of American racism [or any hatred for that matter] is disrespect. 

Moreover, respectability politics is not a philosophy where we value morality for morality sake but it is used as a means to achieve respect from Whites and men: a goal that may never be achieved.

A Post For The White Police Officer Unaware Of History

While we were watching homeless black folks together, I had a talk with a police officer about American history. He didn't enjoy the experience. I told him to check out the blog. This is posted for him:

Life in a white supremacist society exacts a high cost on the mental well-being, sanity, and overall health of non-whites. In such a culture, one of the most exhausting experiences is when white folks "discover" a truth that people of color have long known and communicated. 

When white folks are surprised or shocked by anti-black and brown racism, I nod my head in acknowledgement of their discovery. I then respond, "did you previously think that black people were crazy? Were we lying all these years? Insane? Mad? Was there some concerted effort and conspiracy for us to lie about police brutality and racism more generally?" 

The temporary disruption to white innocence and naivete by the "shocking" discovery that police kill and abuse unarmed people of color is a temporary emotional and cognitive state. Whiteness and white privilege are nothing if not a highly refined type of cultural and social amnesia. 

By contrast, the white public and media's shock, surprise, and dismay at the murder of unarmed black men and women by police is a continual state of being for Black America.

White folks are just tourists in this world; we have to live in it.

Courageous White Reporter Suspended 4 Being An Idiot

A strange belief seems to have developed, in certain segments of white culture, that says black kids would somehow develop a love for their racist overseers, who oppress blacks under the guise of law enforcement, if those blacks simply had fathers. 

Mothers, presumably, teach kids to hate cops. 

Of course, this bizarre belief was developed by whites with A) little black input B) a complete disregard for the fact black boys with fathers are no more likely to view cops favorably than those without, and C) an ignorance of the history of police officers, and racism, in this country. 

They speak as though racism never happened, and/or it doesn't exist now, and/or they have no clue to America's contours. Again - they just sound ignorant. As a matter of fact, such a belief can only be posited by someone who IS ignorant to the contextual reality of, not only American black life but, America itself.

Considering that - and the fact he's on TV where blacks live - if he keeps this up, TMR (kinda) hopes this reporter (1) gets fired,...

Don't Test: American Conservative Racial Resentments Don't Represent TMR (We Call Them "The Guilty Party")

TMR has taken Harvard's Online Racial Preference Test - mostly because other conservatives say TMR's reading of American history is racist, and indicates a hatred of whites. But, when it comes to who to love, Harvard's test reveals TMR represents:

  "Little To No Preference."

Didn't do well on the Privilege Test either.

Is it wrong to imagine TMR's conservative critics (who love to attack anyone or anything "black," anyone or anything that benefits blacks, or anyone or anything that indicates blacks are oppressed by whites and deserving of reparations) probably wouldn't fare as well?

I'm sure they'd say it was - and racist, too,...

I'm getting a special thrill these days, from conservatives, saying blacks should be "grateful" to be here:

Against that history, the claim of conservatives like Charles Murray that the crisis of black poverty can be explained as the moral failing of individuals is the worst kind of smugness."

Has anyone ever done a study, on the level of harm  misinformation might inflict, on the lives of black folks? Since whites are the majority, what happens when another racist meme - like blacks having "bad culture" - smears us? Is it amplified in proportion to white's numbers? FOX News'? 

And what physical effects, if any, manifest? Does violence go up? Domestic violence? Interracial attacks? Police? How long does history say it *usually* takes for white people, to come to their senses, after they've truly lost it?

Wait - stupid question - let's just move on,…
