Montreal Canada Was Burned To The Ground By Blacks

Author and historian Afua Cooper has described slavery in the Great White North as “Canada’s best kept secret.” She says that between 1628 and 1833, Canada had approximately 8,000 slaves, but it’s a part of the country’s history that is not well known.

“Canada conveniently forgot its own history of slave-holding, because that would make the country look immoral, indecent,” says Cooper.

“The narrative of the Underground Railroad has superseded this narrative of enslavement in Canada, because Canada was able to use the Underground narrative to distinguish itself from the United States, which for several centuries was an enemy.”

Putting the focus solely on Canada’s image as a safe haven and a land of freedom for slaves ignores an important piece of our history, she adds.

“We can’t rewrite history, and we have to embrace all parts of who we were—the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

Slave-owners in the American South were largely plantation owners, but in Canada they ran the gamut, from merchants and fur traders to farmers and even religious institutions.

“The slave owners were everybody, in every social class,” says Cooper. “Members of the clergy owned large amounts of slaves.”

Cooper has written several books on slavery in Canada, including “The Hanging of Angélique,” which tells the story of enslaved African Marie-Joseph Angélique, who was tortured and hanged in Montreal for allegedly setting fire to her owner’s home in 1734.

The fire destroyed much of what is now known as Old Montreal, and the story focused attention on the conditions of slavery in Canada and the growing rebellion against it.

There Will Be No White Washing Or Any Other Kind Now

Mad at the truth:

William Prince Ford’s wife, Martha Tanner, was one of my great-great-great-great aunts, so I imagine that should qualify me just as much as anyone else to speak on this: William Prince Ford was a slave owner. He spent $1,000 purchasing a human being that he knew or should have known or suspected to be legally free.

I don’t know why anyone in Central Louisiana would try to defend him. Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance in the film was balanced; Ford didn’t come across as evil or depraved; he came across as ambivalent and passive, gentle but not assertive, “moral” (insofar as it related to his Baptist faith) but certainly not ethical.

I also don’t know who Charles Neal of the Louisiana History Museum is, but I know he’s completely wrong: Solomon Northup was not “treated like family.” He was enslaved by William Prince Ford; he was forced to live in squalor and forced to work long hours. He was nearly murdered at Ford’s home by one of Ford’s employees. “Like family?” Right?

Conservatives Want MLK (But MLK Repudiated Them)

I've been covering Dr. King and the Teas today because I figured - since the Tea Party's rude and awkward show of embracing the great man's legacy on his birthday - their barely-hidden triumphalism (a slap in the face to black's enjoyment of the celebration) would soon backfire.

And, sure enough, my interest has already started to pay off, because somebody's found Martin Luther King, Jr. - in his own words - on conservatism, Barry Goldwater, and the Republicans:

  "It is both unfortunate and disastrous that the Republican Party has nominated Sen. Barry Goldwater as a candidate for the presidency of the United States. On the urgent issue of civil rights Sen. Goldwater represents a philosophy that is morally indefensible and politically and socially suicidal. While not a racist himself, Mr. Goldwater articulates a philosophy which gives aid and comfort to the racists.

His candidacy in philosophy will serve as an umbrella under which extremists of all stripes will stand. In light of these facts and because of my love for America, I have no alternative but to urge every Negro and every white person of goodwill to vote against Mr. Goldwater and withdraw support from any Republican candidate that does not publicly disassociate himself when it comes to Goldwater.”

That sounds about right.

 I guess all that talk the Democrats do - about how Republicans "switched sides" to the nation's racists - isn't so far-fetched, is it?

Hey, if they'll lie about Martin Luther King, the color of their skin -  and the content of their character - say they'll lie about anything.

With the obvious exception of Oprah, white people love NewAge:

It's little wonder, since whites allowed "spirituality" to influence American culture, there's a lot of innocent people getting traumatised.

Notice the literary slight-of-hand, when "infidelity" and "open relationships" are equated as similar, even though one is the ugliest of betrayals and the other, an agreement.

Notice the (very popular) requirement of "Setting aside judgment and suspending beliefs" in order to merely talk with candor - a talk that's obviously a monologue because you won't be saying much without your mental faculties.

And, without a "moral and ethical" framework, you're being told,  openly, not to acknowledge "right or wrong" - knowledge which forms the basis for your own protection, and the protection of those you love.

Yep, NewAge "leaves an open doorway for discussion and exploration" alright, but mostly about where this evil, bankrupt, broken, and cowardly "nature-loving" philosophy has came from:
