American 16-Year-Old Wrecks Havoc By Showing Up

A gymnast lands a difficult double faux pas on the balance beam:

Mom's got good sense - but you're one of my readers (Heh)
so that there the hook-up right there.

Painful tragedy, falling to the cacophony of pleading,...

  1. They should have just let the original apology stand and been done with it rather than trying to explain it. Maybe backed up the apology with one of the coach's own and said "we will take steps to not allow this anymore". Maybe a personal apology, that would be nice.

Nobody can take back what they said, but admitting that you were wrong to say it is a good start. And learning to not do it again is a good finish.

If somebody is beating you, then, you will likely bitch and make rude remarks at some point (because you very much want to win), but learn from them and work harder, and don't let your temper override. In the end, it's on you, not the other person.
Kids used to learn this while playing sports...guess we don't let them in today's environment. :/

Ms. Biles is more of the Mary Lou Retton type gymnast, but that particular battle (between that type and the more ballerina type -- there was an E.Europe girl who exemplified it, can't think of her name) has been going on since women's gymnastics became a sport. The good ones of both types work on being better at what they are not, while emphasizing their strengths in their routines. This also isn't new.
Black gymnasts also aren't new, but they are newer than that rivalry -- the girl's coach should have told her to quit making excuses, work harder.

  2. My heart broke for the girl tweeting - tweeting! - she's human and not a monster. How do you take that image back in this media environment?

Unfortunately, it's just too easy to take that shot, and that's where my heart bleeds for blacks.
