Well they don't call that area of the state "Little Egypt" for nothing.
People will say it had to do with the confluence of rivers and one of the major towns being named Cairo, but most old timers knew it had little to do with that. IL had a bit of an interesting history ante and post bellum.
I'm guessing Quinn and his buddies (both parties) will jump on this and put up a (small) plaque...anything to shift the focus off what's going on in IL today. And there's the rub: if some historical society finally did something, finally told the truth, that would be great -- but it turns into the politicians jumping on something to keep what's going on now out of the papers for at least a couple of days.
