The Farther He's Fallen, The Higher They Hold Him Aloft

The more I see of Ted Cruz - and I'm seeing a LOT of Ted Cruz lately - the more I'm starting to grasp the social Affirmative-Action at work.

He's not a particularly handsome man, having weak features that belie his aggressive stance, so looks can't be what's driving his popularity.

He's not a particularly bright man, as the shutdown proved, so it's not like anyone's drawn to any major brainstorm he's introduced.

And witty? He hasn't made me smile, or chuckle, even once. Sure, I hear those laughing with him, but it's the same type of guffawing Jon Stewart gets on The Daily Show, where - as Cruz notes - he doesn't even need a punch line. So what is it?

It's a cult of personality (for lack of a better term when discussing a man who doesn't have much). I'm watching the same phenomena that propelled Barack Obama - and which conservatives have been dissing as phony for years. And yet, here they are, doing the whole thing over with a Right-Wing spin, but for a guy with no charisma. Sincerely - he's a loser.

If you ask me, the Right's validating the claim both sides are more alike than different, and doing a pretty damned good job of it,...

  1. You do know Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton and magna cum laude from Harvard Law, right?

And that Dershowitz said he's proabably the smartest student he's ever had.

And he's argued cases in front of the SCOTUS.

    1. Where'd you go to college, and were you cum laude?
    2. Where'd you go to law school, and were you magna cum laude?
    3. Have you ever argued cases before SCOTUS? Or in fact, argued anything anywhere beyond a couple of cheesy blogs?

  2. You're obviously a slave to credentials. I'm looking at the man, and he's left me wanting - another man. Any other man.

He's not a leader in any sense of the word.

This is a cult of personality.

  3. Yeah, and how many other really smart guys and gals from fancy universities have been such great leaders as of late?

Education is nice and all, but it is not an indication of good leadership skills and/or an ethical person -- just ask any person whose been in the military: who do they put trust in? the veteran NCO with a good rep, who has a high school education? or the green Westie?

I thought conservatives weren't supposed to get into that whole educated brahmin caste thing.

  4. At some point I'd like to know, in this world, just what constitutes a "pussy" -- because I think my definition of the term and the world's is off. In fact, he does indeed look a bit like a pussy in my books -- he certainly doesn't know how to fight tough, since that seems to be a criterion -- hell, Lindsay Graham fights tougher than Cruz...he knows how to maneuver.

Also, I'm failing to see where "he's not a pussy" is a very good seal of approval for a political leader -- for one, I'm not so sure he isn't, and for another, being "not a pussy" is a pretty low standard for a political leader (there are some real idiots I know who are not pussies).

So, overly educated green guy (who is arrogant because he thinks he's all that) who also can't really fight for shit (but thinks he can because he can throw a shit fit and people call him "not a pussy" for it) is who you guys are in love with? Or Rand (who is a bit better on those two scores, but has some troubling ties that may point to some instability -- and thus will scare the shit out of the electorate...).
Yeah, great plan you got there -- you're going to get rolled if you aren't careful -- and people are getting tired of the extremist, wevowution! talk -- so, if you aren't really careful, people are going to start calling you out and tell you to put up or go home...you should know Americans by and large, overall, don't like that kind of thing -- it's what's made the Democrats unpopular too.

  5. I know you want another man, crack. Your love pleas to Meade are funny.

Point is, you said Cruz wasn't bright. He is. Don't do the althouse slide, own it.
