I'm sick of self-help books, and I'm sick of "thinking positively". We seemed to be happier when we weren't getting mass marketed this stuff.
But then again, I've never gone in for the beautiful people myth (except for my early teen years, sneaking those Cosmos with my girlfriends...which would probably go a long way towards explaining why we were so angsty and depressed for parts of the time, and why I do not desire to revisit my high school years -- damn, we had so much crap thrown at us that messed with our heads, wonder we didn't all slit our wrists, although some did try).
How people manage to make it through the day anymore without coming apart thanks to this junk amazes me. What it does to people is ugly.
