The Farther He's Fallen, The Higher They Hold Him Aloft

 

The more I see of Ted Cruz - and I'm seeing a LOT of Ted Cruz lately - the more I'm starting to grasp the social Affirmative-Action at work. 

He's not a particularly handsome man, having weak features that belie his aggressive stance, so looks can't be what's driving his popularity. 

He's not a particularly bright man, as the shutdown proved, so it's not like anyone's drawn to any major brainstorm he's introduced. 

And witty? He hasn't made me smile, or chuckle, even once. Sure, I hear those laughing with him, but it's the same type of guffawing Jon Stewart gets on The Daily Show, where - as Cruz notes - he doesn't even need a punch line. So what is it? 

It's a cult of personality (for lack of a better term when discussing a man who doesn't have much). I'm watching the same phenomena that propelled Barack Obama - and which conservatives have been dissing as phony for years. And yet, here they are, doing the whole thing over with a Right-Wing spin, but for a guy with no charisma. Sincerely - he's a loser. 

If you ask me, the Right's validating the claim both sides are more alike than different, and doing a pretty damned good job of it,...

 

Fix Affirmative-Action? Easy: Make It Just For Blacks

This is precisely why AA doesn't benefit blacks now:

Ahh yes, white folks. So fair, so reasonable, so clear-eyed in their deliberations.

BOY/GIRL (You Shouldn't Have Slept Around So Much)

It's so screwed up already, they should just stop. Yesterday I was asking who Ann Althouse was so pissed at, knowing it's not me, and now I think I know from reading about Hillary Clinton:

Wasn't that what we got in Ann's cackling mad woman routine? Follow me:

Bill cheated on Hillary. Bill cheated Monica. Bill signed DOMA. 

I know it's just pop psychology but like Hillary, when it comes to men, I think Ann's gleefully punishing the country for her generation's cowardice.

And - like Affirmative Action before it - undermining the credibility of her gay son, because (it doesn't get more obvious than this week, especially with Ann's insane ravings) his new status is subsidized. 

By his Mom. 

And it's all based on a lie. 

What's the lie?

Well, 1) That I had anything to do with it.

And 2) that, just because the kid's a freak, anybody (including you) gets to treat him that way - or force anyone else to - isn't that the gay parent's beef, with everyone else their snowflake may encounter?

Now - just like with legalizing pot - good Americans are being forced to go along with another lie, supposedly for the greater good. Meanwhile, I'm losing track of what the difference between feminism and racism is, when it's still coming down to slanted juries, crooked lawyers, and kangaroo courts - coupled with an unspoken demand no one acknowledge it.

So the fine folks at Hot Air don't believe an AP study that found an unconscious racism in America. And this is despite the fact they have spouted off, long and hard, about the travails of black conservatives when faced with liberals. Hmmm.

And on the flip side is the immediate rise of Mia Love - how'd that happen? A little conservative Affirmative-Action, maybe? Along with her immigrant story, she's done what - exactly - to afford her the prominent place she's got with the party? I'll wait.

No, Mia's good fortune couldn't be race-based, because we all know she's been struggling in the trenches, while regularly introducing one brilliant political idea after another, right? Right? Riiight. I'll wait to see those, too.

Long story-short, it seems to me Hot Air is guilty of seeing what they want to see - but only when and how they want to see it. Not surprising for a partisan hack site, led by a nut job. BTW - has anybody found Michelle's sister yet? Maybe they ought to check that Scientology concentration camp, in California, everyone seems so intent on ignoring. You never know.

So nope, sorry Guys, but - despite your denials - racial paradise hasn't been achieved yet. Hell, I couldn't even get the Hillbillies at Althouse to shut about it, and the Tea Party is always confessing they don't know what to do, so I don't hold out much hope you ninnies have escaped:

Can You Feel It? (Nothing Can Save Ya,...)

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright's recent admission that, when it came to the Obama's, ”Church is not their thing. It was never their thing,” would explain why the president never heard was going on in Wright's wrong-headed house of worship, AND provides another bit of evidence - along with Obama's closeness to Oprah - why I still insist he's a NewAger. The fact Barack chose Hillary Clinton as our Secretary of State - she who famously sought the counsel of "psychic" Jean Houston after it was discovered her husband couldn't keep his trousers closed with Monica around - doesn't help matters either.

But, like Mitt Romney and his ambitions for Mormonism, these Tetris-like pieces, falling perfectly into place, can only be revealed long after the subject of interest has attained power.

That's how a lie of omission - and putting partisanship over country - "works." 

Speaking of partisanship, isn't it fascinating the lengths conservatives are happily going to, digging through Elizabeth Warren's life to debunk her flimsy claim to a Cherokee heritage, but they show no more than a superficial interest in the life of a man in line to become president, who is a high ranking official in what many are openly calling a "creepy"cult? (Remember when Obama ran and CNN said the same thing?) Oh yes, if an Affirmative-Action devouring fruitcake was teaching our children we must know everything, but if a nutjob's about to be elected leader of the free world, just flash a picture of his family on the screen and everybody STFU. That's how presidential vetting's been done in this country for two election cycles now. And even worse A) they try to act like no one's noticing, and B) they're proud of themselves for getting away with it this long.

Bravery Today Means Breaking Down Barriers

Men today can be such cowards.

Today James Meeks back-tracked on his statement that only blacks should be eligible for city contracts set aside for "minorities".

Like FIFA president Sepp Blatter recently back-tracking on his statement that gays shouldn't be acting out in Qatar, this is stupid and wrong.

TMR says both Meeks and Blatter are (mostly) correct, though we're only going to deal with Meeks' comments here. (Sorry, Robin - next time.)

Of course, Glenn Reynolds ironically (and wrongly) labeled Meeks' comments "WELCOME TO “POST-RACIAL” AMERICA" like he (Reynolds) knows anything about being post-racial.

Almost every statement Reynolds makes on race seems designed to keep the bullshit going - he can't conceive of either dropping it as a subject or redefining his views - which is why we lashed out (ironically) at he and Ann Althouse the way we did recently.



Both Reynolds and Althouse are fakers in this regard, and race has been been one of the main areas where both have bothered us for some time.

You can't read them, if you're black, and not have race (and many times class) rubbed in your face continuously.

They not only won't shut up about it but, as this latest comment shows, they always end up on the wrong side of "post-racial" progress.

They make it so we can't truly trust them on much in this regard.

Theirs is a racial outlook still based in 1960s "politically correct" ideology that should have no place in 2010-11 American thought.

The truth is Meeks was/is right. The fact the armies of political correctness have the power to make him feel pressured enough to back down (or that he's too pussy to stand by what he knows is right) is one of the shames of our time.

People forget that before Meeks spoke up, Senator Jim Webb (D-Virginia) had correctly said much the same thing in a Wall Street Journal essay entitled "Diversity and the Myth of White Privilege":

In an odd historical twist that all Americans see but few can understand, many programs allow recently arrived immigrants to move ahead of similarly situated whites whose families have been in the country for generations. These programs have damaged racial harmony. And the more they have grown, the less they have actually helped African-Americans, the intended beneficiaries of affirmative action as it was originally conceived.

The injustices endured by black Americans at the hands of their own government have no parallel in our history, not only during the period of slavery but also in the Jim Crow era that followed. But the extrapolation of this logic to all "people of color"—especially since 1965, when new immigration laws dramatically altered the demographic makeup of the U.S.—moved affirmative action away from remediation and toward discrimination, this time against whites. It has also lessened the focus on assisting African-Americans, who despite a veneer of successful people at the very top still experience high rates of poverty, drug abuse, incarceration and family breakup.

Those who came to this country in recent decades from Asia, Latin America and Africa did not suffer discrimination from our government, and in fact have frequently been the beneficiaries of special government programs. The same cannot be said of many hard-working white Americans, including those whose roots in America go back more than 200 years.

Where should we go from here? Beyond our continuing obligation to assist those African-Americans still in need, government-directed diversity programs should end.

Nondiscrimination laws should be applied equally among all citizens, including those who happen to be white. The need for inclusiveness in our society is undeniable and irreversible, both in our markets and in our communities. Our government should be in the business of enabling opportunity for all, not in picking winners. It can do so by ensuring that artificial distinctions such as race do not determine outcomes.

Memo to my fellow politicians: Drop the Procrustean policies and allow harmony to invade the public mindset. Fairness will happen, and bitterness will fade away.

To deny that truth is to deny blacks what is rightfully theirs, and to lie to society as a whole. When even popular law professors don't understand the dynamics at work in a overly-racialized (and, thus, occasionally silly) country such as ours, we doubt that many others will see where the proper role of racial programs should be, either.

We can "do the right thing" by blacks, accounting for historical injustices, while also eliminating race as a concept in our society - as a matter of fact, we should've been there already - but trying to batter down those trying to get it right, using the evil of political correctness, is definitely no way to go forward.
