Dr. Oz, Please, Keep Me Out Of The Workplace (I'm Just Not Religious Enough)

When people are weird at work, but can't see they're being weird, how do you reason with them? I've been dealing with this question, offline and on, for years:
What’s noteworthy here isn’t that everything said in the meeting is negative...but that, from the top down, the entire company takes it for granted its employees are in mourning over the results of the election. The subtext of all of this is clearly that the wrong person won and everyone is right to be anxious and upset. Google turns out to be exactly the narrow, progressive club that former engineer James Damore said they were last year.

It’s a bit difficult to see how a company which is such a partisan monoculture could possibly take care not to abuse its power to step on the people (about half of the country) who it thinks are wrong and possibly even dangerous. The tone of this meeting is that of mourning but the underlying stance is adversarial. Is it really possible this doesn’t have any real-world outcomes in Google’s work?

You can't get any peace. You're more likely to find Pat Robertson and a Christian prophetess are both making demands of the same hurricane, in a single week, than that. Which is a pretty remarkable occurrence for a pretty remarkable power.

But not as remarkable as celebrities thinking they get credibility back by talking to disgraced physicians. I don't know how that supposedly works. It doesn't add up. None of this stuff adds up now, except for the part where you look down and think:

I'm Currently In A Democrat State (So Everybody Loses)

Trying to blog while on a business trip is proving almost impossible, but - in the interest of being even-handed in my criticisms of Mormons - I wanted to drop this on you:
Actress and Green Party presidential candidate Roseanne Barr told The Daily Caller that voters should be concerned about presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith.
Barr told TheDC that Mormonism should be an election issue “only if you have a problem with a guy having his finger on the nuclear button who thinks Jesus was hanging out with the Indians and that the Romneys will be running their own planets in the hereafter.”
Romney is the first Mormon to secure a major party’s presidential nomination. His religion became a political issue during the Republican primaries when pastor Robert Jeffress, a supporter of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s candidacy, denounced Mormonism as “a cult.”
President Barack Obama’s campaign has repeatedly said that Romney’s religion is “off limits” for campaign mud-slinging. The notoriously unfiltered Barr, however, does not share Obama’s qualms.
“The religion? Don’t get me started — I grew up in Utah,” she said. “Look, lots of Mormons are nice people. I’m sure a whole big crowd of Mitt’s grandmothers are looking down proudly at his run for the White House. But if people knew more about him and how he made his money, and maybe his religion, which is more socialist than anything Obama’s proposed, they wouldn’t want him anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Now, first, the idea that Obama or Romney can declare any subject "off-limits" for the American people during an election is laughable.  Listen up, you assholes:

WE are electing YOU - not the other way around - so you don't dictate the criteria we do that on.

Second, as much as I hate agreeing with Roseanne Barr, it should be obvious I've been saying the same thing she is - especially the part about living with Mormons being completely different from the in-passing experiences so many parade in their defense (the "I met a Mormon and he was so nice" bullshit,…) Such people know nothing - especially compared to this atheist - and are leading their country to the slaughter in a silly effort to assert otherwise.

That said, when it comes to Roseanne's charge that Romney "thinks Jesus was hanging out with the Indians," it looks like the Mormons just might have received a *little* science to back that up:
Israeli geneticists have found that a tribe of Native American Indians may have a genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews.
The genetic mutation is a harmful modification in the BRCA1 gene, prevalent among Jews of Eastern European descent, which increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
O.K., if you read the story, it becomes pretty clear the Mormons have got no case, but it's enough to further their delusions and, I thought, worth a mention. Man, are they pathetic.

I'll keep posting daily, but the further vetting of Mitt Romney will (probably) have to wait until I get back home this weekend. If I can return to it sooner, I will, but my schedule isn't completely my own right now, so - though I'll keep posting - TMR will have to take a back seat to other concerns until around Friday or Saturday. I'm sorry, but it honestly can't be helped.

American Hypocrisy: Enough To Drive You Nuts

I think the Los Angeles Times' Neal Gabler gets Charlie Sheen a bit:
Bruce Willis once described the basic trajectory of celebrity in America as having four stages: You arrive, you peak, you bomb and you come back. Whether he realized it or not, Willis was also describing the phases that anthropologist Joseph Campbell had discerned for the hero across cultures — save for one thing. Heroes don't bomb. That is a distinctly American interpolation, one designed to ensure that our demigods never confuse themselves with gods. As our stars rose into the heavens, we reserved the right to humble them, to bring them back to Earth. Think of Eddie Murphy or John Travolta or Tom Cruise, all of whom seemed to get too big for their britches and were brought down a peg for it.

So Charlie Sheen's verboten media blitz flaunting a lifestyle that is decidedly not shared by the vast majority of his fans (how many of us have two live-in porn star "goddesses" or can profess to have consumed an amount of cocaine that would have killed a mortal?) explicitly violates the contract, which seems to have been Sheen's point.

He says he isn't off the rails like Mel Gibson or Lindsay Lohan. He insists he is the engineer. He is doing exactly what he wants to do, what his riches and fame allow and entitle him to do. As he puts it, he is embracing his "rock star" life.

The irony is that living large and doing exactly as he pleases has long been a central ingredient in Sheen's appeal. His role on "Two and a Half Men" as a womanizing, footloose bachelor seems lifted out of his real life, which is one of the reasons it is funny. We think we are seeing Sheen spoofing himself. When Sheen reminded us that his life is even more extreme than his character's, the media turned censorious — an example of trying to have your comedy and revile it too. Sheen is absolutely right to call this hypocrisy. He has never pretended to be a Boy Scout. He has always purported to be precisely the opposite.
And now Roseanne Barr, of all people, has stepped forward to add another dose of reality to the proceedings.
The comedienne, who worked with Lorre on "Roseanne" from 1990 to 1992, wrote three blog posts on her website supporting Sheen and insulting Lorre's writing on "Men," which she described as "s--- jokes and adolescent sniggering over breasts and women's body parts lines."

"I never really worked with him, as he was mostly drunk when he was on my show, and too busy making deals with my producers for shows that copied mine...to turn in too many good scripts," Barr wrote of Lorre.

The 58-year-old actress added that Brett Butler, who worked with Lorre on "Grace Under Fire," and Cybil Shepard, who worked with him on "Cybill", also suffered at Lorre's hands and "were often out in the parking lot screaming at Chuck and crying."
That sounds like WINNING! if I've ever heard it,...

The Fight We'd Like: Roseanne Vs. Sarah Palin

Roseanne and Rosie O'Donnell. Just two ugly liberal "women" chatting about Sarah Palin (What else?) one claiming she'd "slap her" (and would surely get her ass kicked) and the other one swearing up a shit storm - that one would be Oprah's pick for a talk show host, who's so normal Oprah had to do a "crazy check" before she'd give her the job. (Yea, imagine that - Oprah doing an interview to see if someone's insane. How did that go? "Do you believe in The Secret?" "Yes." "You're hired.") Whatever. All we have to say here is thank Gawd it's radio:

These two are really bad on the eyes. But not as bad as this:

They Hurt The Mind, They Hurt The Eyes: They'll Bring Down The Whole Civilized Fucking World

Whoopi Goldberg is a trip.

When she gets things right, she asks, "Am I crazy or just being nutty?" But, when she gets things wrong - and she gets things waaay wrong - she does so with a confidence that's breathtaking. We think it's a point about liberalism worth pondering.

O.K., hide the kids:

Yowsa!

We noticed this same ass-backwards logic in Roseanne Barr, and Rosie O'Donnell - of course, it's used by "Fire can't melt steel" Rosie O'Donnell - can anyone but Oprah imagine Oprah's giving her another show? It's because Rosie's so cute right? Or maybe because - as public disgust getting her kicked off The View proved - she's such a charmer. Surrrrre.

Whatever it is, it's mind-boggling.

Unless, of course again, you consider that all of these so-called "celebrities" being foisted on us (or who have, otherwise, wormed their way into our lives somehow) are NewAgers - and then the fact any of these people are on American television in the 21st century becomes really mind-boggling. Oh, fuck it:

We're doomed, we tell you, DOOMED!!!

If It's Half As Successful As Her Marriage(s),...

"I have my own religion that I made up for myself and it is a great religion that actually works and respects facts and not fantasy!"
-- Roseanne Barr, taking the obvious next step after going crazy in public - coming up with her own belief system - which is bound to be as on-point to her "followers" as the goofily-named Roseanne World.

Uh-Oh: The Truth Ain't "Out There" Anymore, IV

And, let's not forget, "Crazy Rosie" ranted against us blacks who supported Proposition 8 in California - like we care - and she called for riots during the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Insanity Means You're Sane? That's Sexy!!!

"I knew from a very early age that I was crazed and a witch by patriarchal definition. I knew too however, because I was shown it by a being from another dimension who appeared to me and said: “You will talk about the (female) Shekkinah and her temple priestess and be a witness for he/she/it. You are the only one in your world who is not crazy, and you will always need to reverse what is being said and then reverse it double. Here is the code you will use to stay sane in an insane world: You will see signs that tell you that you are right. If you do not see the sign immediately, then it is not a sign. Signs happen immediately and not outside the NOW. The sign that you are right will be: everyone thinks YOU are crazy."

-- Roseanne Barr, tripping a little too-hard on her NewAge blog, and confusing the Hell out of Pajamas Media
