I Have No Idea What Hippies Were Rebelling Against (When They Had Drugs For Great Moments Like This)

Try to imagine her as the "girl of the past" in Stevie Wonder's Too High:

Post-modern overdosing, making the stomach squeal, knowing it has to come out.

Hey, Lawrence Welk started it! Consider it payback - I never got a warning on where that "modern spiritual" was going or coming from - but I do remember the claustrophobia of Lawrence Welk's (and Billy Graham's) era - I was born in 1961 - so it's not that weird for me to see it today as who we are, even though it can be kinda surreal, considering who are are NOW:

Some bad stuff's gotten mixed up with the good.

According to Wikipedia, "despite the emergence of rock and roll, 'Calcutta' reached number 1 on the U.S. pop charts in 1961; it was recorded in only one take. The tune knocked the Shirelles' 'Will You Love Me Tomorrow' out of the #1 position, and it kept the Miracles' 'Shop Around' from becoming the group's first #1 hit, holding their recording at #2."

Here comes the groaning, and then the churning, twisting pain from below.

For a number of reasons (One take?) I would've thought they've gotta be high! O.K., maybe not:

Better lay down for a while, fast, before any loss of equilibrium.

Remember screaming, "Mama, there's black people on TV!"? Incredible.

And no wonder there could ever be a Lawrence/Smoky competition when - if you consider what Welk was selling - The Miracles were practically pushing the same conservative product, just with crazy choreography.

Too late - running for the toilet - because here it comes!

Alright, try this riff - and check the Quentin Tarentino impression:

In the first Welk video, at the top, that guy later becomes Stevie Wonder's widowed drug addict, and he's lamenting having married the dead girl he now watches himself singing with in old videos, the bitter result of having naively taken his momma's advice to "shop around".

Pretty good, huh?

Gagging now, tasting it, drinking a little so as not to forget.

Kind of an Amy Winehouse thing, but from the other fruitcake's point of view. Maybe add in a cautionary tale-type message, like if you don't save your money - and you don't die of drugs tomorrow - you won't have enough. Or something.

I don't know. What do you think?

Whatever it is: BAM! That could be a TV show! (I kid.)

Alright, splash the face with water. Wash the mouth. Comb the hair.

Silly mortals. We Americans have come a long way, and - because we're essentially the world's guinea pigs for crawling into the unknown - I've come to the conclusion that we're going to always be waaay ahead of the pack. I know it's dangerous but I've been thinking, and - while being born still isn't the big event that sends chills of joy down my spine - I have to admit, despite my complaints, I'm not bothered by the times I've been living through.

I mean, I got here after garters and before AIDS - lucky,...:

Adjust the tie - wipe the brow again - try to look presentable.

In considering our times, I also have reached the conclusion that we - the Americans - haven't been around long enough to be labeled "evil" yet. Compared to others, we were never a bad people, just a little crazy and impulsive, and to suggest otherwise is a lie. Whoever it is or was saying it, it's a lie:

Walk out, elegantly glide to a back room, and let the head hit the pillow with a "thud".

I, for one, will never be ashamed of who we've been.

It'll be fine later, but for now, just sleep whatever it is off,...

You Are In My System (Now Please Get-The-Hell Out,...)

“Blake Fielder-Civil, ex-husband of Amy Winehouse, is reportedly on life support after he was rushed to a hospital Friday morning in West Yorkshire, England, with multiple organ failure and placed in an induced coma."

“'Blake has been trying out all kinds of ways to readdress his life since doing rehab.
'He's been eating healthily. Then he got heavily into bikram yoga. Now it's Scientology.'"

You Stand Watch: I'm Taking Care Of The Rest

Hey - I'm here today (I'm out of work, where else would I be?) but my music software got corrupted overnight, somehow, so I've got to spend a bit of time backing up my stuff before I can do much else. Sorry - can't be helped.

I've put some of the more neglected tags at the bottom of this post so, if you want, you can amuse yourselves with some of the less-seen items/topics until I get started again - and just keep clicking from there. I won't be too long:

I'll be putting something new up between each stage of the operation.

Have fun!

P.S.

Clicking on the "music" or "videos" tags, and continuing on to the Older Posts at the bottom of each page, is bound to surprise you.

Blake, Listen To Crack: Go Back To Heroin. Now.

"Blake Fielder-Civil has turned to crackers celebrity cult Scientology in a bid to stay clean after rehab.

The ex-husband of AMY WINEHOUSE, who's back with her, is taking a big interest in the oddball organisation which counts TOM CRUISE, JOHN TRAVOLTA and WILL SMITH as members.

A friend said: 'He has been reading lots of Scientology books and researching it on the internet.

'He is seriously thinking about becoming an active member.

'Blake has been trying out all kinds of ways to readdress his life since doing rehab.

'He's been eating healthily. Then he got heavily into bikram yoga. Now it's Scientology.'"

Portrait of a man who can't handle stimulants. (Kidding.) Wow. I never saw this coming. I thought he was smarter than this. But, if the photo above is any indication, they've really got the whole mind, body, spirit thing working on him something fierce. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. But we've seen this - the haircut, at least - before:

Here's before it all went so wrong:

Finally Eating (Come On, Girl, Get It Back!!!)

It's probably the artist in me (I don't know why otherwise) but I'm seriously rooting for Amy Winehouse: I want her back with the living. Like me, she's been through a lot emotionally, and pointedly rejected the trend towards celebrity cultism while doing it. (There's just got to be another way for a real artist to live today, other than hemmed in by weirdo beliefs, or trying to cheat death.) She looks good in this new photo, that's for sure, and once she fattens up, she'll start knockin' 'em out of the park again: She's fearless - except in the only way that matters.

I know, I know - I'm putting more into her recovery than my own - but, yessiree, this photo makes me really happy,....

Stepping Up - And Out - For Love

"I dragged [Amy Winehouse] into [drugs] and without me there is no doubt that she would never have gone down that road. Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love*,...I will do anything for her — and that includes walking away,...I'm not going to fight her for anything. I'm not taking a single penny off her."

-- Blake Fielder-Civil, showing what real men (and real artists) are made of, in New York's Daily News.

*I'm really happy to have a reason to add a "love" tag: never had one before now.

Victim Status

“Personally, I reserve the right to complain and even whine about whatever injustices are visited upon me — bad haircuts, bad boyfriends, and bad reviews. I have always believed in complaining — in one view, that makes me a liberal."

-- Wendy Kaminer, in Peter Schweizer's revealing article - on Barack Obama and the liberal art of whining - for the National Review

O.K., I Admit it:

If Amy Winehouse makes one more good album I'm flying to England and marrying her ass.

Straighten that girl right up,...

A Little Early Trick Or Treating

The info on Client #9's girlfriend is wild - can you believe Eliot fucking Spitzer threw everything away (or would throw anything away) for her? The stupid hole's musical taste - if you can call it that - runs to Celine Dion, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera, for christ's sakes. (She's since cancelled her MySpace account.)

She says she doesn't "want to be thought of as a monster"? Fine - you're not a monster - you're just another dumb slut. Surely, not as dumb as Eliot Spitzer, but pretty damned dumb. His wife must want to kill him,...if she can ever get over her embarrassment. I mean, look at those sunglasses.

And before anybody writes in, about me calling her a "slut", she picked the damn job, not me.

This should point out so many things to us: How people hurt each other - non-violently, of course. How the "innocent" decisions we make that seem unrelated to anything else (Oh, I think I'm going to start hooking!) can topple other people's whole worlds. How bad the parenting in this country has gotten. How silly the women are. How stupid the men can be. How power corrupts. How utterly corrosive the level of stupidity - by everyone - can be. I could just go on and on and on.

It's really tragic in it's scope. Amy Winehouse's father is now confessing his own affair may have fucked her up. It's like the entire post 60's generation was just one big mistake.

And before anybody writes in, whining about men and sex, Julie Andrews just confessed she's the product of her mother's infidelity.

Secrets and lies, secrets and lies, where would we be without secrets and lies?

Fraud in the weather. Fraud in the EU. Fraud in the supplement industry. Fraud in the NewAge. Fraud in the women's movement. Fraud in the world of comedy. Fraud in the movies. Fraud even on helping the homeless. And that's just today. I ask you: Are any of you people for real?

And before anybody writes in, asking about me, I can assure you - as a former Democrat - I'm making up for lost time.

"The Doughy Pantload", AKA Jonah Goldberg (above) author of Liberal Fascism, has a great time with Michael Tomasky (of that bastion of liberalism, The New Republic) after he criticized his book. I won't go into it (you can read it yourself) except to mention Michael Tomasky's one itsy-bitsy line of concession:

“There is, to be sure, a little something to it.”

Hilarious.

And before anybody writes in, talkin' shit about Jonah Goldberg, stuff it: The guy makes me laugh.

And, finally, I'll end this post by proudly displaying a recent declaration by the French foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner, about America's relationship to the world. Except - since I know the French get everything backwards - in doing so, I'm actually sending his declaration out, specifically, to the NewAgers in America and abroad. Here it is:

"I think the magic is over."

Enjoy it while it lasts, kids.

I Don't Want To Say "I Been There" But,...

"Life is like a pipe.”

- A lyric from mega-recording artist Amy Winehouse's song, "Back To Black." Like Yours Truly, Winehouse was also forced to part with her spouse against her will, publicly rejected cultism, and openly writes about drug use (She was, also, recently caught on camera smoking "that rock".).

What it's like to be a (real) talented, passionate, and insightful artist:

Oh, you people just wouldn't understand,....

No, No, No!!!

Amy Winehouse Says 'No, No, No' To Kabbalah

No one can deny Amy Winehouse needs help, but the troubled star won't be turning to Kabbalah for assistance.

The 24-year-old singer set her heart on one of the organisation's trademark red string bracelets after spotting a girl wearing one in the street.

The bracelets are said to ward off evil spirits but Amy, it seems, had no interest in their spiritual side – she just wanted one as a fashion statement.

"Amy saw someone wearing one and thought it was cool," says a chum.

"She stopped the person who gave her a Kabbalah handbook and told her to see a Kabbalah rabbi if she wanted a bracelet.

"Amy baulked when she discovered the bracelets cost £18 and said she'd give the rabbi a miss."

The handbook, I'm told, went in the bin.

Well, it's about time *someone* in entertainment showed good sense, and decided they can have a career without needing a cult for support,...

Getting Personal

"At this moment in America, religion and politics are at a flash point. Conservative Christians deplore the left-wing bias of the mainstream media and the saturation of popular culture by sex and violence and are promoting strategies such as faith-based home-schooling to protect children from the chaotic moral relativism of a secular society. Liberals in turn condemn the meddling by Christian fundamentalists in politics, notably in regard to abortion and gay civil rights or the Mideast, where biblical assumptions, it is claimed, have shaped US policy. There is vicious mutual recrimination, with believers caricatured as paranoid, apocalyptic crusaders who view America's global mission as divinely inspired, while liberals are portrayed as narcissistic hedonists and godless elitists, relics of the unpatriotic, permissive 1960s."

- The slightly off-kilter, but always fun to read, Camille Paglia

Hi Kids,

I haven't written anything in a while because, honestly, I can't type and, without that singular talent, I just can't find the time. I'm working with the homeless now, which can be all-consuming, so I've quite-obviously reverted to giving you a bird's-eye-view of some cultish stories I've seen (a little too obviously, for my taste, but what can I say?) I know, they don't give anyone a true picture of the world as I see it, but it's all I can do right now.

So what do I see out there? I see the cultish Democrats failing - and failing miserably - in their efforts to undermine the greatness of America. George W. Bush and the Republicans are, finally, kicking ass and taking names later, leaving the Democrat-controlled Congress and Senate in a mess of (primarily) their own making. From stopping the war to Global Warming, the Dems have over-stepped, over-sold, and over-heated the debate to the point where, finally, any rube with half a brain - which is all most Democrats think Middle America has - can see through their delusions. It's all over now but the fat lady singing. I even think a Republican may make it to the White House, though I have no idea which one.

There's some bleating that religion and spirituality is starting to take up too much airspace in the Presidential race (which is silly) but, as you can expect, that warms my atheistic heart to it's core: Get it all out, I say, all of it: Mitt Romney believes in the racist, raping, rantings of his very-dead cult leader, Joseph Smith. Cultish Hillary has talked to the very-dead Eleanor Roosevelt. Mike Huckabee is a very-dead Evangelical liar. Obama has the New Age's living dead, Oprah, campaigning with him. They're all very alive, politically, and all very nuts. But that's what you get when Americans mistakenly confuse Freedom of Religion with the idea you've got to respect all beliefs. I respect none of them and, with a few exceptions, think all the candidates should be sent packing and we start over fresh - yea, with all new beliefs too. Hey - even an atheist can dream.

Ike Turner just died. That's a shock. I never thought Rock 'N' Roll's true Prince of Darkness would ever keel over. That one man did more for Pop music than probably anyone else - by making it dangerous - and nobody gave him the time of day for most of his life. True, a lot of that was his own fault, but, mostly, it was because of "Tina" (and the fact people could get along with her made-up ass better than the authenticity of him) but the true talent wasn't ever in the body of Anna Mae Bullock, that's for sure.

"When people talk about rock and roll they talk about Chuck Berry. They talk about Fats Domino. They talk about Little Richard. Before all these people Ike Turner was doing his thing. He is the innovator."

- Little Richard

In a perfect world, Ike Turner would've strode this earth like a God - which is a scary thought - but there it is. He deserved more than we gave him - and that's coming from a guy whose nephew is just finishing up a 12 year prison stint from merely getting involved with Ike's family.

Speaking of prison, musically and culturally, I'm enjoying the rise and fall of Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse. Jones, a San Quentin prison guard, has the band Winehouse borrowed (The Dap-Kings) and is tearing up the stage while Amy (who makes good records but is boring on stage) is coming apart because her drug-addict husband is in jail for being an idiot. (Can anybody say "Rehab"?) The synchronicity, alone, is almost enough to make me believe in,...something. Interesting musical side note: It's taken over two years, post-divorce, but I can *almost* listen to music for pleasure again. (Anything regarding passionate love is, still, off-limits.) For that, alone, I'll never forgive my ex for what she's done.

Speaking of my ex, Karine Brunck (her brain scan can be seen above) - and getting this post back on track - the Pagan's Homeopathy campaign is finally showing signs of wear. England has shut down four out the five Homeopathic Hospitals there and the poor Homeopaths are complaining they have to supplement their incomes with other nonsense like Acupuncture. Aww. I guess killing men, women, and children, isn't as good for business as they thought. Of course, I'm hoping the ripple-effect kicks in, and this trend starts to spread world-wide - like to France - where my new favorite frog, Wissembourg's Dr. Robert Wohlfahrt, does his dirty work. The stupid murderous bastard.

O.K., on that sour note, I'ma get out of here. I'll try to actually write more when I get the chance but, like the homeless, I never sleep these days and that can make things, like having an actual life, tough. Still, you're in my dreams when I do.

Y'all stay up,

CMC
