Dear Ann Althouse,
I know you're aware of women's make-up, NewAge, and homeopaths (the last two, both, a part of ObamaCare) so for you, now, to be bowled over by The Sebelius Lie - something I find to be such a normal, everyday, average occurrence it's almost unworthy of mention - strikes me as bizarre:
Really? Aren't you being pretty selective in your outrage?
We've got a web of deception around us, so thick, we could make a claim we're cocooning, but it's "incredible" and "astounding" to you that the news story de jour (a very important point about conventional thinking, there) contains a politician - a politician - telling whoppers?
What about all the low-hanging fruit that led Sebelius and the rest of us here?
Where's the outrage?
Ever heard of the "Broken Window" theory?
Clean up the small crimes and the larger ones solve themselves?
Why do you think we don't pursue that in the blogosphere?
What "incredible" and "astounding" things is it hiding?
While pretending to expose something?
Politicians lie - Big Whoop - we know that.

ReplyDelete"Astounding" and "incredible" don't mean what you seem to thing they mean. They just mean astounding and incredible.
ReplyDelete"Outrageous" should be reserved for behaviors that trigger extreme anger such as when Trooper Joke refers to a black man as his "little n----- buddy".
An outrageous behavior is one that's intended to cause the outraged person to finally jump out, in a rage, and beat the outrage-er to a bloody pulp, sending the outrage-er to the hospital.
I think you see what I'm saying.

That idiom just means not good but normal, PW. Astounding and incredible mean surprising and not believable.
ReplyDeleteI agree Sebelius lying was par for the course for the Obama Admin. But even though lying about ObamaCare has become normal, that doesn't take away from the unbelievable lie she told here or just how astoundingly bold she was in telling a lie that is so easy for anyone to google and debunk.
As part of his schtick, Crack routinely attacks Althouse for breaking his imagined rules of language - the same rules he fails to hold himself to. He seems to think because she is female and has the credentials to be a law professor she should be held to his imagined higher standard -- delusional thinking by the mighty hunter of delusional thinking. It's par for the course for Crack, he's hardly credible when he does it, and barely astounding.

Did I "attack" Ann here or simply say she's wrong? I think some take my comments more seriously than I do. And I mention Ann because I read her, still. I read Insty, too. Doesn't mean I agree with him.

No - Ann is a feminist. Not the same thing. And professors should hold themselves to a higher standard. Just because hippies decided on some great leveling of the profession's stature doesn't mean it was right. Don't want to be someone the uneducated look up to? Don't be a teacher.
