This, even though - after sitting at Jobs' death bed - his biographer said, “He [treated his treatable cancer] with diet. He goes to spiritualists. He goes to various ways of doing it macrobiotically and he doesn’t get an operation. I think that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don’t want something to exist, you can have magical thinking. We talked about this a lot.”

And grown men - working in high tech - going to spiritualists, was Carl Sagan's nightmare.

TMR's Year In Review: White Welfare - Instapundit Once Again Shows The Poor Black Folks How It's Really Done

Online cults? Cliques? Groupthink? I've been against them from the start. Never forgetting how Ann Althouse got so popular (it's all on the strength of her profound "writing," right?) I howled with laughter when I saw this:

"IF NATIONAL REVIEW DOESN’T PROPERLY APPRECIATE MARK STEYN, I imagine we could find a place for him at PJ Media."

And, Boy - considering Steyn's a syndicated columnist with a regular gig on The Rush Limbaugh Show - he certainly does need Glenn's help!

There were others but, this year, my favorites were Instapundit's many handouts to Utah's former Tea Party candidate for governor, David Kirkham. He, who admitted - in private, under TMR's careful questioning, last New Year - that he was only running because he'd sold his sports car business, and was "bored". (Which, I think, is Instapundit's sole reason for existing, too. That and, of course, your money,...)

As fate would have it, Kirkham eventually went on to have a heart attack, and so, would have to amuse himself with something other than fanatically toying with his fellow citizen's lives. 

It's a pity, really:

I Really Don't Think I've Asked For Much & So Will Again

Watching how the world warps and sags around him, Barack Obama's not coming off too badly as president now, in my CrackdeBlackstimation. But still - when it comes to presidential style - so far, I've preferred the "Earthy" guys. Give me your George Ws or Lyndon Johnsons:

My reasoning? Simple - same as any white guy's:

Speaking of things I understand, conservatives get how ObamaCare's playing, all wrong.

Like every other "scandal" the Right has had on Obama lately (Benghazi?) it's a, manufactured, mountain out of a molehill.

They're talking about a website - an insurance website at that.

Isn't the point, as most see it, that a lot of people never even had insurance before?

Then doesn't it figure, in the real world - which is almost everywhere but in the media - nobody will really care about this topic until they themselves get hurt?

Here, further, let me play Karl Rove and explain the psychology of entitlements - especially, especially massive ones:

People will wait, to get the website right, as long as the Dems care (and/or appear to) for those who can't.

The other party - my party - that insists on looking and acting like it's filled with stupid white racists, who want women in the kitchen and everybody in church, has nothing to compete.

Add Scott Walker to the ticket (if he realizes what a lack of charisma he has and takes the veep spot before, foolishly, deciding to challenge) and we're "in".

I do like watching the Right, going nuts over nothing, though - they look great on TV.

Yes, like looking at pictures of Hitler being adored by those he destroyed, it's a mental struggle to visit NewAge websites. Hell, it's a struggle for me to know NewAge exists - but, I read 'em anyway, for the nuggets I know they expose:

  "Do you really want to be going to yoga? Is that something that you truly want to do? Or is that something that you do because people say it’s the right path?"

That's a good question - and a fine, unintended, reminder for fanatics:

Like naive children, posing with their "loving" killer, your supposedly non-cultish exercise can put you right on "the path"....

 

Hallucinations: Imaginary Visions Don't Get Real Results

It's difficult to understand how plowing drug users with propaganda is supposed to work when, it's obvious, the thought processes currently flowing - from straight life - don't. Let's start with the obvious:

How is creating a society - filled with propaganda - supposed to make anyone want to live, much less, stay coherent? 

Are you kidding me? Do you see how far off the mark they were, whenever it first occurred to someone behind this clip to say, "Hey - I've got an idea!"? (All the, I guess, brilliant lawyer/professor Ann Althouse wondered, after seeing this, was "How'd they do that?") It's pretty obvious to most drug users what no one's addressing:

How coping - without drugs - is supposed to fix living with idiocy. 

For instance, there's a lot of religious nuts out there, of one kind or another, no more reasonable than your average drug addict. Did the existential problem they pose, somehow, go away because whoever made this "public service announcement"? Or, as the commercial depicts, did the creators conveniently think users would forget the existence they're stuck in, while watching this? (Really? It was considered that powerful?) Let's try something, few who make these things consider, and look at it all another way: 

Where's the commercial (and concern) for a fallen stoner friend who found an approved belief system but - as (wink, wink) his appearance improved and his mind sharpened - he increasingly used both to become popular as a rigid fanatic spouting nonsense about invisible beings who must be obeyed? 

See, now that's a common 1st World problem that people are dealing with. It needs addressing and, by doing so forthrightly and in a straight-ahead manner, you might make life more tolerable, allowing some users a clear pathway off drugs. 

Doing the one thing found, to make the incomprehensible tolerable, is irrational? Because you'll die? Life kills us all, sooner or later, so that's no argument.

Religion and drugs make life less than worth living, so they've both got you coming and going, but (the thinking goes) at least drugs give you something in return. There's a real incentive. 

Stop trying to scare people out of living - kill two birds with one stone: 

Fix a real problem and (most of) the imaginary go away, too,...

 

Hell Of A Country We Have Here (No, Really, It's Hell,...)

 

I don't know about you, but I remember when Obama came on the scene - introduced by Oprah "The Secret" Winfrey - and there was talk of a "magic negro" who was going to pay the mortgage and gas, and he was saying he was going to lower the oceans, and CNN was asking if we didn't have a cult on our hands - BEFORE people on PBS were calling him God - and you know what?

 None of the crazy mattered enough to keep the NewAge Golden Child from office. 

 But let him say this:

And everybody's as suspicious as,...well, as paranoid and cowardly fanatics in wartime. 

 See, Obama made what's called a definitive statement. There's no wiggle room. It either is or isn't a scandal. 

 I'm going with isn't. 

When I was about ten my beloved foster mother,...actually I had two - no three - I'm sticking with three. Anyway, this good Christian woman told me Hell was defined as trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it. O.K., that's frustration, but I got the concept and tried to live my life in a way that avoids that situation.

Instead, I find it thrust upon me, every minute of every day, year round, rain or shine, there it is, that damned media bucket, you wanna call it Seinfeld? Let's call it Seinfeld. You know how this episode is going to end? Let me tell you:

Somebody innocent is going to get hurt.
