We. Are. Fucking. Doomed.

"The study found that 82 percent of respondents said they 'depend on God for help and guidance in making decisions.' And 71 percent believe that good or bad events are 'part of God’s plan for them.'

And one in three respondents agreed with the statement: 'There is no sense in planning a lot because ultimately my fate is in God’s hands.'"
-- Tara Parker-Pope (great name) reminding us NewAge dreamers are wrong again - we live in a world of delusion not illusion - and, to me, such a cosmic-sized misreading of reality, pretty much, explains why so much is really screwed up, including The New York Times.

  1. I don't know whayt you're saying here. 95% of all people worldwide believe in some form of deity. Just about all of human progress has been achieved by believers, most of that by monotheists, probably a majority of that by Christians. If all atheists were periodically rounded up and shot, how much reduction in GDP or any other significant metric would be caused? Not much. (You? We'd miss your healthy self-esteem, but I think we'd manage, no offense.)

Probably your big New Age problem is caused by the fact that: once you don't believe in anything, you'll believe in ANYTHING. IOW, suckers.

If you think that Christians and Jews are just another flavor of suckers, well, that's your privilege. But atheists neither built the cathedrals nor split the atom. What do atheists do? Run around declaring their atheism. Good for you! Now go produce.

    Otherwise I missed your point.

  2. Nichevo,

Missing my point is the point:

You left out all the deaths caused by your belief - more than for almost any other cause - but that's what I expect from a believer. And believing in ANYTHING is the very definition of religion. And - and - "Suckers" is the name of a famous book on NewAge "alternative" medicine, nothing to do with atheism. And - and - I have no use for your cathedrals, so I hardly consider building a place for people to engage in delusions a plus for your side.

Nichevo, I don't have time for this - debating a fool makes me one - so, please, abandon this line of reasoning: it won't work on me. I am perfectly happy avoiding religion, as best as possible, and living out my life, alone, on this planet spinning 18 miles a second in a cosmos known to be much to big for your God to give a shit about what happens in it. The behavior of believers has taught me that. They kill with abandon and then make excuses why it's O.K..

Nothing you say will change that, just as nothing I've said will either. Until a believer kills what you love, you may never understand - and I sincerely hope you never have to face that - but, as long as you haven't, you really have nothing to offer on the subject. Your beliefs can't help me - they've hurt me - and until you grapple with that fact, your further contributions to my pain are just that:

    Further contributions to my pain.

Just leave me alone. Find another blog. Stare at the sun until you go blind - whatever, I don't care - just amuse yourself elsewhere:

    I ain't the one.

  3. Maybe I've been unclear, but long story short I am not here to add to your pain. Specifically, I am not here to defend New Age. I'm not really here to defend religion, although .

I guess I don't know why I'm here except trying to make conversation, but if it is unpleasant, indeed I will be happy to take my business elsewhere. I'm sorry you're miserable and, while I'm sure nothing I can say would help, you have my sympathy.

TW: exitiv. I understand your desire to be exitiv, Crack, but don't be TOO exitiv, IYKWIM.
