According to the readers over at Althouse, after 400 years of white-on-black murder, whites should still be able to sing of killing me - without me feeling threatened - because,...there's another political ideology:

And because whites right now are confused,...as to what kind of threat they pose:

And because - something these proponents of "colorblindness" have denied until now - they've always been this way:

But, if I was white - or even Ann Althouse herself - I simply would've settled for saying sick serenades aren't a problem because, in America, whites killing blacks has always been "fun for the whole family,..."

It's instructive to note that ”not only do 59 percent of Americans say the torture of suspected terrorists was justified," but it's probably those same Americans who have been attempting to  justify the killing of black citizens by calling us "thugs" and "savages" and - in the case of Darren Wilson - a "demon." (That these are convincing arguments, for them - alone - to explain why someone with darker skin has to die, is also revealing.)

A white man who didn't get regularly criticised by his black friends

Why - since it served so much racist conservatism - is The New Republic referred to as a "liberal" magazine? Because it once was:

There was a time in TNR’s earlier history when the magazine was famous—or infamous in some circles—for the race articles by its firebrand Managing Editor demanding immediate and full racial equality. That man was my father, Thomas Sancton (Sr.), who served as M.E. from 1942 to 1945.

During those years,  Sancton published dozens of articles denouncing segregation and taking to task the timidity of most other liberals on the race question. I can’t say whether his personal passion for racial equality represented TNR’s editorial position at the time—the main focus then was on the war against Hitler—but Sancton took advantage of his rank to place his own articles in the magazine throughout his tenure. “I controlled the pages,” he once told me, “so I could publish whatever I wanted.”

Sancton was almost unique among southern liberals for his radical stand on the race question. Among other things, he wrote about lynchings, race riots, the so-called Negro Press, the work of black writers, the northward migration of southern blacks. He even called FDR to task for not speaking out against segregation and racial discrimination, an article that Eleanor Roosevelt herself promised to “bring to the attention of the President.” He befriended prominent black intellectuals, including W.E.B. Du Bois, Ralph Ellison, Langston Hughes, Roi Ottley, Henry Lee Moon. His race articles were denounced on the floor of the House of Representatives by the segregationist congressman John Rankin—a call-out that he wore as a badge of honor—and attracted the attention of Henry Luce, who hired him away from TNR to write about racial issues for LIFE.

And Mr. Sancton's fine dedication to blacks - and America - is a wonderful example of why the word "whites" is, today, said in quotes,...

I'm no expert on what's "stupidly Orwellian" (inviting 1000s of Nazis to live here after slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, supporting South African apartheid, etc., while demanding black's appreciation and patriotism?) but I'm sure focussing today's conversation on white's victims qualifies.

Unless they insist there are no victims - but those blacks yell at,....

Right now whites are mourning the death of The New Republic, a 100 year old magazine, with no blacks, that promoted racism - whites didn’t notice anything wrong.

1000s of Nazis were allowed to live in America, with Social Security included, while whites discriminated against American blacks up to and including raping and hanging - and it still hasn't occurred to the whites I know that juxtapositioning was wrong.

Blacks also weren't allowed to vote until 100 years after the laws were on the books - while white folks didn’t notice the wrong and even had to be urged, by MLK at his most eloquent, to see it.

And, today, Sean Hannity (as ignorant as the day is long) is "leading" televised conversations on race - and few whites see anything terribly wrong. They just don't see it.

I'm watching white men insisting, when they are falsely accused of rape by white women (Lena Dunham and Rolling Stone) it’s an outrage, while - historically - that's the reality white men and women have been foisting on black men for centuries. And they just don't see how they look as they battle and cry. They just don't see it.

The lynching photo on my last post went with a story about a white pr firm that didn't know the racist history behind the name they chose, "Strange Fruit." My last post was a reflection of my frustration: “I honestly don’t know what to say.” But then, I’m not a writer: I’m an artist-turned-blogger, trapped in a seemingly impossible situation created by others.

Blaming Blacks For What Whites Do? It's Nothing New

I was reading about how whites are spinning Eric Garner's death, right after they did the same to Mike Brown, and came across this factoid:

"Indicting the black population for their own deaths is a tactic that’s been employed disingenuously for 50 years,…”

It's not really a "factoid," because whites have been doing this much, much longer than just half a century. This is still my favorite example:

It's tragic that black Americans have always had to be maimed, or die, for whites to be happy with themselves, but also that whites can't see the racist script their lives - and this horrible place they made - are based on:

White disregard, of the pain whites cause blacks, starts young

Ann and Meade - and their white readers - have repeatedly said to act like white people, but I don't listen to them:

To suggest, as both scholars and the media have, that the violence experienced by all-black or all-brown neighborhoods today stems in large part from their residential isolation is problematic for other reasons as well. It leads some to suspect that if people of color simply spent more time with white people, lived next to them, and went to school with them, they would be less violent—they would perhaps learn better ways to resolve disputes and deal with stress and anger. White Americans also have a long history of violence—not only when asked to share residential space with African Americans or even to treat them as equals in schools or on the job, but also when nary a person of color is near. From the lynching of blacks in the Jim Crow era to the crimes committed against African Americans every time they tried to move onto a white block after World War Iand World War II, ugly incidents of white violence were both regular and unremarkable. Even among those who look just like them, whites historically have engaged in a variety of violent behaviors that would make many shudder—from their propensity to engage in brutal duels and to “eye gouge” their fellow whites in the decades before the Civil War, to their involvement in mass shootings in more recent years.

It's so gratifying to learn The Lion Of Idaho, Republican Senator William Borah, "remained personally popular among Idaho voters" after declaring:

“You Southerners are not the only ones who lynch Negroes,...we in the Northern states lynch them just as quickly as you do,....” 

Trying to find safety is still the issue

Why do I like it? Because his statement, emanating as it does from the Senate floor, re-affirms so much I already know about the country - especially that no place in America has ever been "The Promised Land" for blacks - including the North. AND that Republicans were never our friends either.

It's election time again! Y'all come on out!

Instead of buying postcards of hung, tortured, and burned alive black bodies, those who donate to Darren Wilson enjoy the vicarious pleasures of killing a black person by proxy. Michael Brown, and by extension other black American men, are born with a bounty on their heads.

Darren Wilson is the white gunslinger who brought the black “thug” to “justice”. This is cathartic violence for the White Right and its Fox News driven propaganda machine.

The supporters of Darren Wilson are enjoying the fun of a thrill kill; they are sharing ownership over the deed by donating money to their idol Darren Wilson."

Blacks who ask for donations get teased, whites who don't - and kill blacks - can get half a million white dollars overnight

When This Blog Comes Full-Circle The Noose Tightens

Woody Allen once said he wouldn't join any group that would have him for a member. Smart man - doesn't need TMR:
