I tell them and tell them but still they push back:
"Walking is as good as jogging for heart health, a new study has found"
Folks, you're going to live as long as you live, and then you'll die. Don't fight me on this:
Watching stupid people is the best teacher life can provide,...
We all have death sentences. The Walking Dead resonates with many because it is reality--we are all walking dead (and frankly there are a lot of zombies out there too).
ReplyDeleteAs for when you die, there are a lot of factors involved. Genetics is obviously a big part of it. As is diet, physical risk factors, stupidity (see photo above of the woman who got gored by that rhino), having a pet, family (or lack thereof depending on your family), etc. But if you leave a completely sedentary life, you might die faster than someone who is active.
Meh, I just don't want to get so fat or out of breathe that I can't do the things I want or need to do (within reason -- I'd love to have the physical prowess I had at 20, or even 30 for that matter; ain't going to happen, but at least I'm not in as bad a shape as the guy who goes by in the Rascal each day, that would suck).
ReplyDeleteThe whole living longer thing is for dopes; I don't have any desire to live a super long time (I'd like to be around long enough to be there for my kids until they've all fully fledged and safely left the nest -- after that, meh).

It is not living longer, it is living better, which often tends to result in living longer.
ReplyDeleteLiving better for me includes getting to eat hot dogs, RCs, and potato chips when I want them, and smoking when I want to -- with the knowledge that if I don't shove away from the plate soon enough I'll get to the point that I can't put up that new section of fence (and that one day I won't be able to put up that fence no matter how "healthy" I am).
ReplyDeleteI really don't get this obsession with health/lifestyle, blah, blah, blah -- sensible behavior, yes, getting all kerfluffled about it, no. The one thing that made me cut back on my smoking? That the blasted things are getting too expensive! (which sucks, because I really like to smoke)
Seems to me the more I see people obsessing about their lifestyles and life prolonging choices, the less life they actually get to lead -- screw that.
