If I could tell whether the country being discussed above was in the First or Third world, simply by looking at that sentence, I guess I could find reasons to venture out more often. But I doubt it."Despite advancement of modern thought and practice,…many _________ still revere ‘godly’ people and have a staunch belief in faith healers."
Is that a true fucking tragedy or isn't it?
I think I've been Traumatized By Travel™,...
I've been jaded by travel -- not much difference between your average first world, upper class, suburban housewife swearing by the Atkins diet, an Appalachian snake handler in a shack that doubles as a church, a European neo-pagan listening to the latest death/black metal for "messages and meaning", and some not maybe even third world Pacific islander erecting an effigy airplane made of sticks and palm thatch. They're all wanting much the same thing and both making it real by believing in it so much.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if you asked any of them, they'd all say that it was a quest to "find something" and wonder why you weren't up to looking for that something, or any something yourself -- which of course if we're all perfectly honest we all do "look for things" in our lifetimes.
It's probably just a matter of degree in believing the guarantee/warranty on the thing or things is all it's cracked up to be.

and of course, it bears repeating that I'm just a dumb hillbilly whose probably all wet in this viewpoint
