The duck was probably thinking (in duck terms of course): "ok, when are these predators going to issue the coup de grace and eat me". Just a hunch, a feeling as to what plays in a duck's mind (probably something along the lines of "quack, quack, quack, oh shit, quack, get it over with quickly would ya?, quack").
