Fix Affirmative-Action? Easy: Make It Just For Blacks

This is precisely why AA doesn't benefit blacks now:
"The white adults in the survey were,...divided into two groups. Half were simply asked to assign the importance they thought various criteria should have in the admissions system of the University of California. The other half received a different prompt, one that noted that Asian Americans make up more than twice as many undergraduates proportionally in the UC system as they do in the population of the state.
When informed of that fact, the white adults favor a reduced role for grade and test scores in admissions—apparently based on high achievement levels by Asian-American applicants."
Ahh yes, white folks. So fair, so reasonable, so clear-eyed in their deliberations.

I hear - especially when angered - they're the most honest brokers around,...

  1. I'm kinda for holding public schools to a higher standard (probably not going to happen), and I like Paglia's old advice about bringing back the trade schools and junior colleges and giving them some status again.
And doing away with affirmative action (but the other things would have to be in place first -- if we as society are going to tell people to up their game to get into a four year uni, then they have to be able to do so, and they have to have some options if they don't cut it).

If the Asians are the ones who can cut it, let them...they work for it, they own it, they get to claim it; if you want to go to college, got to compete at their level...in the meantime the world is such that we still need mechanics, welders, plumbers, farmers, electricians, operating engineers -- which are worthy professions in and of themselves (and from what I've seen of a lot of college folks, they desperately need people like that around: I question whether some of them can boil an egg without hurting themselves).
