The Empty Suit Vs. The Crazy Man (Not So Fast)

We wish hitting you with this was our idea, though it wasn't, but it's so insightfully good we can't pass it up:

Over at the Althouse, Ann (above*) was trying to decipher what Obama was saying last night in Tucson, and not finding much substance.

Which prompted a commenter, named Jenner, to ask the question that supposedly made Jared Loughner start hating on Gabrielle Giffords:
"What is government if words have no meaning?"
Considering nothing the president says ever has much meaning, we don't know the answer to that one, but it sure seems to us (after Jenner's comment) that the NewAge shooter - repeatedly described as "crazy" and incomprehensible - is certainly becoming more and more politically understandable by the day.

*The new photo of Ann Althouse is courtesy of her pain-in-the-ass "husband", Meade.

  2. If you need tech help with how to get photos you steal from other sites to automatically link to their source pages, you can email me and I'll try to assist.

I'm sure attribution is something a macho guy like you can figure out for yourself.

  3. Anytime someone asks me to take a photo down I do, which is good enough for me.

Why you want to persist in fucking with me in this manner is beyond me, but remember:

    I'm an artist.

I can really fuck up your image if you want.

  4. Two things:

    1) Jesus Christ, it was *obviously* a miscommunication.

    2) I didn't ask for your "help" since I don't consider a picture grab "stealing" (or does the original disappear from the site I get it from?)

You've really got to get over this.

  5. You're using other people's work, Crack. There are rules for attribution and fair use. What do you think entitles you to be exempt from those rules?

  6. Here's some better questions, since I've been an artist my whole life without your input:

Who elected you the internet cop?

And where does that impulse even come from?

And why don't you offer the kind of "help" people ask for, instead of substituting it with your own unwanted bullshit?

And you didn't even look at the link I provided, above, did you?

    How rude!

  8. And one more thing:

In the 5 years I've been doing this, I've had a grand total of three - three - requests to remove a photo.

That's how imperative this issue is out there.

    What's wrong with you?

  9. Here's some better questions, since I've been an artist my whole life without your input:

No one elected me internet cop. I try to protect what is mine and those who are near and dear to me. I'm sure you would do the same thing if you were in my shoes.

And where does that impulse even come from?

    See above answer.

And why don't you offer the kind of "help" people ask for, instead of substituting it with your own unwanted bullshit?

Not bullshit and I do offer help when people ask me.

And you didn't even look at the link I provided, above, did you?

Actually I did, Crack. The cliched philosophical claim that "art is derivative" does nothing to obviate the need to provide attribution when you use another artist's work. I can't believe you don't know that. Unless you've sold them, do you not own the songs you've written? Paintings you've painted, etc.?

To turn to him for legal expertise just because he has a video on YouTube called "Everything Is A Remix" would be the equivalent of seeking a medical diagnosis from a shaman or treatment from any other quack.

    But you already know that.

    How rude!

Yes, you are. But it's an important element in your "art" and, believe it or not, I get that. Still, I would like you to stop being rude to me, my friends, and family members. Thank you.

  10. I try to protect what is mine and those who are near and dear to me. I'm sure you would do the same thing if you were in my shoes.

I took your photo down. And I didn't use the picture of Ann in any kind of a malicious manner, so the idea you're "protecting" anyone is bullshit. You're just being a pain in the ass. As I've said before, Ann exhibits more balls than all the so-called "men" around her. But - being a feminist - I'm sure that's the way she likes it.

Unless you've sold them, do you not own the songs you've written?

Have you seen what's happened to the music business since the internet - without asking the artists - inserted itself into our medium? Nobody owns music anymore - not even the artists. Music is only a business card now - live shows are the only way to make money.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Kirby Ferguson is a writer, director, and editor. He is not qualified to give legal advice.

Did I say I turned to him for legal advice? (And what happens when you - you - assume things?) Like me, talking about NewAge while you educated ignoramouses natter on about whatever, he's talking about the reality of the world we live in while you're berating me about an outdated model of copyright law. Or do you think the record companies are making serious headway in "protecting my interest" when people get my music for free?

I would like you to stop being rude to me, my friends, and family members. Thank you.

And I would like you to grow up, be a man, and face reality:

You can't hide behind lies and delusions forever.

  11. "...outdated model of copyright law..."

And that brings us back to an updated model - the Creative Commons License. I cite it in my first comment, above. Do you have a problem with playing by the rules of the new model?
