"If I was a dictator, [NewAgers are] one of the first groups of people that I would eliminate."
How is it that I can start this blog in 1985, talking about the NewAge Movement and how much harm it's caused - not just to the world but to me personally: I've lost a marriage, family, friends, employment, you name it - but today, in 2025, saying NewAge is horrible has morphed into the punchline for a Bill Burr bit?
I'll tell you how: because I've put it all together and the Bill Burr's of the world haven't - and the fascists know it - so I, a black man, will catch hell for decades while Bill Burr doesn't, because Bill Burr's no threat. Consider, in his previous Saturday Night Live monologue, he said "white women" were who's responsible for the backlash to "woke":
"The way white women somehow hijacked the woke movement, generals around the world should be analyzing this....somehow, white women swung their Gucci-booted feet over the fence of oppression and stuck themselves at the front of the line."
Notice: he was analysing it, but (apparently) still hasn't put together those "white women" are NewAgers, putting themselves at the head of the line that's supposed to be for me, but using it to bury me, instead. Not only for noticing but saying something about it. It's truly remarkable.
Remarkable because, if you put Burr's observations with those of Norman Finkelstein, about all the trouble "woke" has been causing for minorities, then you can start to understand the authoritarian era were in, and not only how it got started but by who. It was the actions of NewAgers, already wrongly cancelling people like me, who brought us the authoritarianism of Donald Trump.
Conspiracy theorists are suggesting the CIA is using AI chat bots to keep Americans from analyzing things online, but why would that be necessary - or realistic - when the nation's already embraced a long-running religion that's been keeping Americans from thinking for the last 20 years, resulting in an American Civil Rights Movement that, today, is used to defend white South Africans?
Putting "killing" in the title, and an early (and brief) appearance by Bill Burr, are obvious giveaways: Stand-up has another great newcomer, showing American males how to thread our cultural needle.
"[Elisabeth Targ] was a doctor. She knew her bounds: When someone is about to lose a loved one, never deny them their faith."
AND THEN FINALLY THERE'S THIS:
"The time for miracles had run out on Elisabeth Targ. It was a scary moment for the uninitiated, her lungs suddenly gasping for air, trying to hang on, hyperventilating, nearly barking, spasming for more than half an hour. But this literal last gasp is how most die,..."
"I had no interest in watching [The Blind Side] when the movie was released in 2009 because I had no interest in taking in another white savior story."
"Dude, I don't like those movies when they make black and white people get along, Man. Even those ones seem ridiculous, y'know? Because there always has to be some sort of lesson, in those movies. It's like, "Y'know I never looked at it that way!" It's like, that never happens, y'know?"
Why don't conservative white guys act like the white guys who get along with everybody? Conservative white guys are always telling everyone else to act like them, because they've been successful (leaving out all the historical advantages everyone knows American society boosted them with) so why don't they listen to anybody white who's being successful at getting along with others? Where's the conservative Bill Burr Fan Club? Blacks seem to love him. So what's the conservative's problem?
How did Louis CK get so enlightened on racial issues, when conservative white guys seem to have huge problems? How is he so gracious, while they're so viciously hostile? Is it because he's part Jewish? Part Mexican? Or is he just a better class of person than they are?
White conservative guys often think they have to come across hardcore, and racial differences can't be mentioned, because they're "colorblind" - which is the opposite of what black people want from them. We prefer they be decent people who can make intelligent observations about the collective situation we're in.
I don't get that watching Fox News.
Tim Gaither loves black people. Announces it. You don't see that very often. Love's not a sentiment I hear from conservative white guys. They usually want to know something that'll start a fight, like why black people don't live their lives according to one line in Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech. (Hint: Martin Luther King made more speeches than that.)
White guys who can handle black people, without getting upset, are unique and deserve to be emulated. The ones who know the difference between a real criticism and just some "woke" bullshit. They're cherished. But that is NOT most conservatives. Conservatives think there is no real criticism. And that, all by itself, is a problem.
Because racism, past and present, is real. And effects us all, whether we realize how or not.
Slavery lasted roughly 250 years, with Jim Crow going for another hundred. And now we're here. Or, as Louis CK says, slavery ended after two old ladies lived and died. That's not very long ago. So, if you don't have some, almost collective memory of all of that coursing through your bones, somehow or in someway, then I don't know what kind of American you are.
As they read this, I'm sure there are many people who forget Quakers and abolitionists were white people who were always vehemently against slavery and the oppression of blacks. Are you going to tell me there's no one else carrying on that tradition today? Or deny their numbers have always been small?
That's America.
Their numbers have always been small. So the "majority" as a concept is what it's all about. And all I'm saying is some white people handle being the majority more gracefully, today, than others. And they're not the Republicans demanding blacks leave the Democrat party. I ended up going Independent, and a Trump supporter, because I just couldn't take Republicans anymore.
And white conservative dudes ought to take note, because it is to today's abolitionists - not the Greg Gutfeld's trying to tell us we're wrong - that I am eternally grateful for. Because - really - without the rest, black people like me would probably go crazy.
I woke up this morning,...thinking about “woke” - a lot.
Specifically about how, just like Americans stupidly do yoga without understanding it or the dangers, they're also approaching woke in the same ignorant, superficial way. It's a weakness.
And, though it’s fun to watch otherwise intelligent people babble on authoritatively about something they clearly have no clue about - as though they're the smartest people on Earth, coming to save us from,…what they don’t understand - if you're black, and been through the whole "woke" thing, it still leads to feeling like you’ve been born in the world's most stupid era.
Every American, by now, should know what “woke” means. Long story-short: Smart. Blacks have used the term since the 1940s. That the rest of America is just now waking up - to the term - speaks volumes about how cut-off most are, from we people they've supposedly lived side-by-side with for centuries. Who, they insist, don't deserve reparations, presumably because they know our lives so well. They watched a few Thomas Sowell videos, don't you know.
That, Ladies and Gentlemen, would be a woke observation.
I been "woke" to black life. In the '90s, the joke was, if you wasn’t by then, your dumb ass gonna stay nappin'. Remember "It's a black thang, you wouldn't understand?" It appears that may still be true.
Now it's in the hands of the NewAge, so I've had nothin' to do with it. Seriously, those people are crazy, and anything they're behind is a lie that goes right off the rails.
It's crazy that 30 years after I was creating my own Jan. 6, people like John McWhorter (who it's easy to imagine nappin') are still actually missing NewAge, to see "woke," butas a “religion.” He's like people who aren't aware Trump highjacked the Republican Party: the NewAge movement took over "woke" - that's the sick 2023 M. Night Shayamalan twist.
It's weird, watching this deeply religious country, terrified over the growth of a religion. After a lifetime of Christians insisting we, specifically, need to find “religion” as THE answer to all of our problems, now they fear a belief. In terms of NewAge - which is widely acknowledged as harmful - going "woke," I think it's fair to ask, “What’s changed?” Here's a quote to help explain things:
"If you've ever gone browsing in an occult bookstore (and you really should; it's like browsing in a science fiction bookstore, only the authors really believe the stories they're writing, or pretend to), you may have seen a shelf labeled "conspiracies" right alongside the sections marked "astrology" or "Tarot." People who write about fringe politics often miss the extent to which New Agers serve as a transmission belt, allowing ideas from the left, the right, and the counterculture -- not to mention more outré folks like the UFO buffs -- to slide from one subculture to another."
"Many of the progressive and holistic ideas that lie at the heart of today’s lifestyle Left, the environmental Left, and the New Age movement share numerous unquestioned philosophical, emotional, and practical similarities with the intellectual and cultural currents that fed into and sustained Nazism."
- Jonah Goldberg, Liberal Fascism
Those are white women who listen to Oprah, who, skeptics have noted "promotes the paranormal, psychic powers, new age spiritualism, conspiracy theories, quack celebrity diets, past life regression, angels, ghosts, alternative therapies like acupuncture and homeopathy, anti-vaccination, detoxification, vitamin megadosing, and virtually everything that will distract a human being from making useful progress and informed decisions in life." That's their bastardized, inside-out version of "woke." Just from that old list from 2008, I can pull out psychic powers, new age spiritualism, conspiracy theories, quack celebrity diets, homeopathy, and anti-vaccination as major social problems, today, that were helped along by Oprah. I'd add scarily bad journalism to the list, as well. Hell, I could make a really long list after how long she's been around. These people were destined to be a problem.
But, if they were clever, they would've screamed "Fraud!" because that would've been "woke".
"For [Oprah's] believers, self-knowledge is much less important than self-'love.' But the question they never seem to ask themselves is: If you wouldn't tell another person you loved her before you got to know her, why would you do that to yourself? Skipping the getting-to-know-you part has given us what we deserve: the Oprah culture. It's a culture where superstition is 'spirituality,' illiteracy is 'authenticity,' and schoolmarm moralism is 'character.' It's a culture where people apologize by saying, 'I'm sorry you took offense at what I said,' and forgive by saying, 'I'm not angry at you anymore, I'm grateful to you for teaching me not to trust shitheads like you.' And that's the part that should bother us most: the diminishing, even implicit mocking, of genuine goodness, and of authentic spiritual concerns and practices. Engagement, curiosity and active awe are in short supply these days, and it's sickening to see them devalued and misrepresented."
Anybody can see Oprah's 2016 Netflix show, Greenleaf, is a “megachurch melodrama” but can they see she's fucking with you?
Are they smart enough to know it's a cover for that other Netflix show, When They See Us?
You’d think it wouldn't be possible for deeply spiritual and religious people to make deeply dishonest and racist films - films anyone could debunk - but Oprah would. Because she's the Queen of "Woke."
"That would be the same Marianne Williamson who introduced the world to "A Course in Miracles" in her book, A Return to Love. And those would be the Miracles described by Jesus-channeler Helen Schucman, who, at the end of her life "cursed, in the coarsest barroom language you could imagine, 'that book, that goddamn book'," and whose life-partner sidekick, William Thetford, was oh-btw concurrently doing research on "Personality Theory" funded via the CIA's then-secret MK-ULTRA mind control program. Weird, I know. But hey, I'm just saying."
- Rage Boy, from The Mystic Bourgeosie, who noted Obama "actually said 'new age' twice in his inauguration speech"
It'd be amazing if no one didn't notice something.
"Woke" is knowing what was being let loose, in 2013, when Obama - who the NewAge called "The Lightbringer" - was handing out the U.S. Medal of Freedom like it was candy. And what effect such lousy recipients would have 10 years later.
White conservatives - who say it's racist for blacks to discuss race because it makes whites uncomfortable - don't understand this country, it's history, The Republican Party, American blacks, or The Civil Rights Movement. If they did, they wouldn't be trying to change it all to their vision, when they know it's outdated.
Because white conservatives generally, "don't think about race" (and, thus, have done little about it) even the kids have a skewed vision. Like their too-many-documentary-watching parents, they, too, imagine black history is ancient history, so everybody's dead:
A civil rights veteran says white conservatives can't "appreciate the nuances"? Well, if they didn't in the past, how can they, today, when the Right openly says they are "colorblind"? Terrence Roberts, the still-living civil rights legend, has it all wrong - there's no "ongoing battle to end racism" for white conservatives. They've got old fashioned racism again. And I'm a witness.
Recently, TMR was compelled to show the history of "colorblind" racism, just as Slate's Jamelle Bouie was compelled to explain it's adherent's motivations - two blacks at the same time - so, I've got an inkling, white conservatives are stillpracticing racism, while, maybe, not understanding exactly how they're doing it.
"The problem is that 'I don’t have a racist bone in my body' only makes sense if your definition of racism stops at personal animus. If that’s true, then yes, I’m sure that most people lack racist bones.
But let’s broaden our horizons a bit. If we think of 'racism' as material harm—or anything that furthers racial stereotypes—then it doesn’t require anyone to hold hatred or show explicit bias. Bob Dole’s support for the South African regime wasn’t racist because he hated black people; it was racist because it bolstered a racist government. Likewise, if Paul Ryan committed a racial offense, it was to perpetuate ugly ideas about low-income black men.
In other words, the only reason to say 'I don’t have a racist bone in my body' is to change the subject: from what someone said or did to who he is. Indeed, when it comes to race, it’s much easier for people to talk about their boundless tolerance than it is to own up to their actions."
Glenn Reynolds on holiday - for no particular reason.
The Projects - "a monument to the folly, and the cowardice, of good intentions."
Many white conservatives won't do what Terrence Roberts suggests, from what I can see, mostly because A) their skewed vision paints them as proud heroes for even associating with blacks - which is obvious South African-type racism - and B) they know there's no way to hold whites accountable for what they're doing - without enormous risk to black people - in today's still-white-dominated environment. I know this from experience - white's exploit opportunities for pure racism. As Bill Burr said, it's subtle, quiet, and comes with I'm-not-racist disclaimers, because those are the "nuances" of race whites understand. And they do practice it.
You are so cool to do this.
White conservative'sculture, of ignorantly looking down on blacks, hovers over and around the country - just as whites physically do blacks - not understanding that, usually, most black's attempts to buck that culture are not because we agree racism's "over", but because of the racist enforced-poverty white conservatives also force on us.
That's what this is, ultimately, all about.
White conservatives think they can win from losing.
Being around white conservative'signorance, alone, is life-threatening to blacks, but white conservatives can't know that, since they don't want to be told. But blacks know. Just as white conservatives refuse to change, the problem doesn't either. It's as American as apple pie, baseball, and broken promises.
And that, I added, would be "just like black life,…" because it is. Left alone to handle "your" problem, of whatever you tried to build on going up in flames - a problem caused by someone else - but it's only the black person who, somehow, has to "escape"? That's normal for us. Black parents live with it, daily. But, after the recent spate of black lynchings, why would white conservatives in America consider, in 2014, that black "success" is still, proudly, measured in staying alive?
This should be in the Pledge Of Allegiance.
They don't want to know. It's too different from white life, in this so-called "post-racial" world, where how much money they make/exploit remains the mark of achievement. Even Althouse's supposedly-educated commenters can't comprehend the basics.
Althousecommenters are so "open" about their feelings.
Can anyone deny, almost no matter what whites do, if they imagine the problem was "centuries ago" - but blacks must "deal with it" today - that shows white conservatives have no awareness of what we "poverty pimps" have always been doing with whites? Isn't yelling "stop playing the victim" what whites have always said to blacks? Isn't this the white conservative's answer to Terrence Roberts' challenge to "ask yourself, 'In what way am I perpetuating this ideology of racism?'" - when outnumbering blacks 6 to 1?
"Think on your feet, Rabbit"
And, as we do "deal with it", is it any wonder we don't also welcome (and aren't grateful for) advice we receive, on being "happy" about the situation whites have - repeatedly - put us in?
Do conservative whites own mirrors - or are they like vampires?
As Wisconsin SenatorPaul Ryan's recent comments suggest, I've met whites who seem to think there's something wrong with blacks, simply because whites still can't imagine anything wrong with themselves. How could white supremacists know any different? They tell themselves it was their ancestors, long ago, who have nothing to do with how whites behave today. Today, the problem is elsewhere - just as their ancestors said - but, since whites don't want to know different, who knew?
That's the nation and history white conservatives blindly support. But what do blacks see if our trust in this nation is not blind? Whites who think they're different. Not just from their forefathers but everyone. And, just like their racist forefathers, they see "animals" where people are. Again - I'm a witness.
Unlike most blacks, I've had a front seat to not only Ted Nugent saying it, but Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds saying it (even after the Ted Nugent brouhaha!) and commenters - like the Dust Bunny Queen and edutcher - saying it. History tells me the Tea Party's definitely something to worry about when it's politicians, entertainers, internet leaders, and numerous caucasian commenters feel free to openly talk like Nazis.
This statement makes her different.
What they refuse to understand is - while there is a cultural uniformity there, including in how I, as a member of their "subhuman" species responds to it - they are now representatives of America's racist elite, who don't have blacks - or America's - well-being at heart. It's those of us, reacting to them, who do.
Really, what's their point? In the context of America's history, white conservatives can't tell us. Because they don't know. That's why they need history gone.
Like blacks have never had other things to do.
Some want blacks dead, on trumped-up charges, so they can finally be comfortable,...with the spoils from slavery, they deny this nation was built on, and support in pretending blacks don't deserve. That's my "colorblind" theory, anyway, because that, alone, will be the end result if they're successful. More crime.
What it's like to want a job.
So, we'll push on for justice, with or without them. As we always have. They can get mad if they want to. Living with them is, still, life and death and a massive theft. We know this. We won't stop. Their disgust at our actions are nothing new.
As I said, the white conservatives lack of self-awareness, of themselves as individuals AND the situation white America's created, is deadly. But only to blacks like me.
