Crazy

See, here's the thing - I love the truth. Everyone else seems caught up in this your-side/my-side bullshit. Liberals attacking conservatives. Conservatives attacking liberals. Nobody thinking about a God Damned Thing - just reacting, like a bunch of nerve endings on fire, twitching and twittering their lives away as though what they're saying amounts to anything more than "Look at me!"

They're saying nothing. As Bill Whittle points out in this clip, Barack Obama has held out for FOUR YEARS in this age of a supposedly grueling 24-hour news cycle - with a hyperactive blogosphere - and nobody's laid a glove on him. Try suggesting Mitt Romney should be really vetted and see what that gets you.

The truth is, we're just too dumb to go on. This occurred to me (this time) when I heard ABC News' Brian Ross had reported the Batman attacker may have been someone with the killer's same name, and liberals were hounding the poor  Tea Partier to death by phone. Here's a few other thoughts on today's stupidity:

Who hears of a mass murder and starts scouring political websites for a suspect?

Who keeps tying the Tea Party to violence when not a single attempt has turned out to be true?

Who finds two people with the same name (golly!) and publicly connects them to a heinous crime?

Who was placing angry phone calls to a criminal that had already been apprehended?

Who keeps claiming the murders were "senseless" - before we've heard a motive?

And who keeps invoking supernatural powers when we know prayer doesn't work?

Why, it's enough to make you want to shoot somebody,...

  1. Most criminals are crazy, but they are not legally insane. That requires being separated from reality and not knowing right from wrong. This killer was crazy in looking for fame and meaning through murder, but he knew what he was doing and planned it. He should be convicted of 1st degree murder and face either life in prison or death.

  2. I don't think he was anymore crazy than the rest of the world (which means he was pretty crazy).

We call people like this out of the woodwork and onto ourselves. When folks are making death threats against a trifling movie review reviewing a trifling movie like this is somehow the really, really real...the big picture...the important stuff and truth of life, then we are going to get "crazy" people identifying as "The Joker" shooting the crap out of theatres (sad thing is, the majority of the people in that theatre thought it was a pr stunt, a prank for a disturbingly long period of time -- the really real was on the screen and all about the screen and not the smoke from that bomb or the person sitting next to them getting their brains shot out).

    Heck, meet the new normal.

  3. ...and of course, part of the new normal is political parties making political hay out of what was (more than likely, I'm betting, but I could be wrong) an act which had nothing whatsoever to do with politics (in fact, something far more important than trifling political parties)

The shooter was a "Tea Bagger"!!!!!! OMG!
Wrong, records show the shooter was a registered "Demonrat"!!!!!!!OMG!

Like that really has any freaking bearing on this whole nasty business; like political parties are at the core of every freaking issue from wars,to droughts, to the price of gas, to old people losing control of their bowel movements...to how we even see the world and ourselves.

At some point aren't people going to get a bit sick of hearing nonstop "Democrat! Republican! no, Republican! Democrat!"? or even "conservative/liberal" which those terms don't even mean anything anymore thanks to the abuse of language perpetrated by those political parties (who aren't even standing for what they were supposedly founded to stand for).
George Orwell died too soon...he would have had a lot to say about the new "normal" (that is if he didn't instantly succumb to depression after witnessing us).
