What does it take to become a cult leader? 

"Narcissism, certainly,...the kind of personality that lets them exploit people for money and power without feeling too guilty about it,...Parents are much more likely to be comfortable knowing their 20-year-old is heading off to a yoga and meditation class than to a cult compound led by a blind madman intent on destroying the world." 

Self-absorbed people (self-absorption being why they're doing yoga and meditation, instead of getting good at doing something practical) are a huge leg-up on the competition. Having nice legs helps, too: Very spiritual.
