Parents See Race Like Their Parents Saw "Reefer Madness" (As A Documentary)

Probably true, but - after long periods apart - those "white boys" are always shocked to find the benefits were all one-way: for themselves, as white guys, navigating a world with blacks in it. Few benefits flowed the other way.

Befriending whites didn't lessen the number of racists I had to encounter. Didn't make the others more understandable. Or understanding. Didn't cause more to defend me, from mobs, or misunderstandings. Barely ever put another dollar in my pocket. Life amongst whites was one of injustice - and one blacks just have to take - and, many times, the struggle has been, in part, specifically for reaching out and helping numerous white guys become better people.

The good ones were good already.
